Okay, here's the scenario: I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2005 Gallardo that's for sale at a dealer. The dealer has a sterling reputation and sells lots of different exotics but is not a factory-authorized Lambo dealer. I've seen and driven the car and it seems to check out 100%. It only has 3,000 miles on it. The Carfax is clean. Also, the car has 16 months remaining on its full warranty. In light of all these circumstances, especially the warranty, should I have a PPI done at a Lambo dealer or do you think I'm safe? I need to move pretty quickly. Opinions?

definitely get a PPI done. You can never be too careful with such a large purchase. Better to be safe than sorry.

    Yup. No PPI, no deal.

You can do a lot of damage to a car and/or its engine in 3000 miles!

You do not need to move fast.....there are lots of Gallardo's around......and they have not stopped building them yet......

If it was a mint condition example of something with a race history and outstanding provenance, along with limited production numbers and built 20-50 years ago....it would be a different story.

I would caution you on moving fast. That's when things get overlooked. A PPI is absolutely REQUIRED! It's just the smart thing to do. If it all checks out, then you have piece of mind. If you fail to do your due diligence and something is wrong, then you have piece of something else and the knowledge that you paid a pile for the privilage of getting screwed... and not in a good way. Buck up and get the PPI. Or just go to Roy Cats. His reputation here is outstanding and he will always know where to get what you want at a fair price. Good luck... and save the rushing into things for AFTER you have the car. Then just don't get caught.

Since it is under warranty the only things you need worry about are things not covered by warranty,....clutch/brake wear and a frame/body inspection
    to determine prior wreck event.

Don't forget any paint work done to the car. Abnormal or excessive tire wear?

Thanks for all the input, everybody. I heeded your advice and did deeper homework on the car. Without going into details, I'm not buying it. To those who cautioned me to slow down and check everything out -- you were right. Thanks!
