I wonder how many times this really does happen. I think the length of time that the power wasn't turned off is the amazing thing. Maybe he had automatic withdrawl from his checkbook.
Pretty soon we'll be seeing Ferrari owners mummified looking at their cars, for fear of sitting in it and spoiling it!
that's the first thing i thought of when i read this story, how did his power not get shut off? it is a sad thing to have happen though.
I wonder why no neighbor ever saw the light from the TV glaring. If it was on every night for a year you would think someone would notice.
Condolences to the poor guy, but it says a lot for the staying power of televisions also. I wonder how long a TV will go for if left unattended ?
The neighbors said the guy was blind and used a line strung up to help him to the street to get mail. What was he doing watching television if he was blind? I think shutting the power off just slipped through the cracks.
Hmmm, what happened to his mail? And all those dang leaflets, phone books, et al that gets left on the doorstep?
The guy lived at the end of a lane so his place wasn't readily visible. The post office will stop delivering mail once a box gets jammed up. Based on pics his box was full. Bursting and frozen pipes caught someone's attention though.
is this a new story? i thought this happened a couple years ago... edit: found it, almost a year ago, same thing - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101822
