So I'm sitting in Love Field Terminal and I get an Amber Alert on my iPhone. I picked up the phone and then it disappeared. Questions: When did this start happening to iPhones? How do I opt out of this service? Happen to anyone else? I don't need alert bulletins to my phone. Thanks. Robb
I just ran into this too. Apparently, you cannot cut off the Presidential alert. Very, very creepy. Dale
Don'tcha know - the government does whatever it wants now. Obama said so! On a serious note, it doesn't just go to iPhones - it goes to all smart phones, mine included.
Pull up your apps drawer and you'll see an "Emergency Alerts" app. Open it up and you can turn off the Amber Alert, Severe Weather and Extreme Alert, alerts. Of course as was said the Presidential alert cannot be turned off. I only have the amber alert turned off.
I found it. I don't see this as a bad thing. I hardly ever get an alert. Why wouldn't you want one? What if you saved some girl from a kidnapper?
For some reason some people get a lot of alerts. One of my managers asked me to help her turn hers off. She was getting alerts all the time for some reason.
I turned ours off when it went off in the very early morning hours for an Amber Alert that was literally hundreds of miles away. I'm supposed to look out my window at 3 AM? no.
I know which one you're talking about. It was only 20 miles away from me! I was still pissed about it.
