All cash this year! My Amex bill was $950 last month - the lowest it's been in years.

    Woo-hoo!

    Merry Christmas.

If you do all of your Christmas shopping in hotels, you can roll those charges to the Sign & Travel portion of your AMX card that is the revolving payment portion of your card's bill. Hummmmmmmm.....Wonder if this would work if I bought a new Enzo at the Wynn!

PS: wanna know a secret? Here's how to really piss off AMEX. Be the ultimate 'deadbeat'.

Their charge card you must pay off in full every month. But make MORE payments than nessecary, such as once a week :)

Also do so on the 5 other 'credit cards' they gave you, and watch 'em flood you with cash advance checks, 'special' CA rates, etc. They just increased my limit on all cards for the 2nd time in as many months as well.

They hate me, and I love it.

(of course they are getting the last laugh from the merchants with a 3.85% 'discount' rate...)

Hey, what will they do if you just carry a basic gold card? I confess this is the only credit card I own (I have a Lowes card, big whoop), but no other Amex cards. What are they likely to do if you simply overpay your gold card?

Nothing. Possibly bup up your 'undisclosed' but very much present credit limit. But possibly not.

Aparently AMEX's charge cards get your 'credit limit' by taking your last 6mos spending, averaging that, then adding $1,000 or 10% whichever is greater (or depending on who you ask.) I frankly am not impressed with AMEX's charge cards. I do have a green.

When I was doing some heavy lifting a few years ago, and travelling constantly between LA, NY, NY and Western Europe (with the occasional jet charter for trips out west), I was racking up 40k plus a month on my Amex card. Most of that was charged back to the client but it got to the point where nobody flinched when some silly numbers showed up. Since then, I've got a slightly lower running tab :), but I carried much of that on the green card, and paid it off each month. I later went for the Platinum, since they were doing 'two-fers' for a while, including if memory serves, on the Concorde. I never got the Black Card since it seemed like it offered little over Platinum at the time. And, at that time, the travel service and amenities provided on Platinum were terrific. I don't travel nearly as much, and the last time I called Platinum for travel assistance, it felt like self-help- I guess you've got to have the Black card to get that level of service now.

I just want Bruce to explain how you are going to raise money to reduce my expenses? Bruce?
