    Hello,
I am pretty new at playing american football, so I have lots of things to learn.

I have opened this thread to discuss about / share our experience and our exercises we have had since we play football.

Could you recommand me exercises to improve my speed (be / run faster)?.

    Have a great day

I'm no fitness expert, but it's my belief that, outside of specialized strength training, your physiology will only provide you with so much speed. How old are you? What position(s) do you play or hope to play?

You can improve your speed a little bit, but much like arm strength, you have what God gave you and that's it. If you're a 4.8 40 guy, you'll never be a 4.4 guy. Sucks, but that's the way it goes.

It depends on how fat you were when you timed the 4.8/40. If you can lose 50lbs of fat you may be able to shave .4 seconds. ;)

speed is very important in football, but you have to have speed AND size, which is a tough combination to get. you can have all the speed in the world, but if a 300 pound strong safety is on a collision course with you, can you stay on your feet?

    My position is Running Back.
My coach also thinks that I could try to play wide receiver.
But he has never mentioned any exercises up to now.

What age? The two positions have very different demands. Try both, because you'll be better-suited to play one or the other. Go with what fits you best.

Guys, the questions are: where is Zzono playing ? What is the size of the other players ? What is the skillset of the other players ? What is the competition ?

The reason I ask is in the USA it's common to see 330 lb linemen, but you won't see that in Europe, you might see 240 lb linemen.
Here, you see 6'5" QB's with arms that can throw, in Europe - not so much. And has anyone seen a WR that runs 4.8 ? Hence my question on what the competition is. I'm not saying you must run 4.4, but if you run 4.8 and the guy covering you runs 4.6, you will have problems. If you are 5'8" 230 lbs and the guy covering you is 6'3" and 200 lbs you will have problems. It's all about the matchup.

ZZono - what is your size ? What is the size of your opponents ?

Buy 5 lb ankle weights and start doing cardio workouts, and anything you can find on hand-eye coordination.
You don't need to run a 4.4 40, you DO need to be able to get open and catch everything that is thrown to you.
