If a football game is a blow out Fox or any of the other networks, they would shift over to a closer game to keep viewers. With sweeps in play every eyeball you get on a program translates to future earnings potential for any network. If they feel they're in a period of viewership drop-off they're going to shift over to a program that'll deliver more eyeballs. With the slowing economy affiliate stations are seeing a huge downturn in add revenue in the scatter market, it's a wave coming and the networks know it. They'll all be trying to get asking prices up for the next UpFront presentation and that means high ratings. If AFHV provides better opportunity for that then they'd better do it. Also a lot of the advertising for NASCAR and AFHV might have been presold at a guaranteed viewership. The Network would want to get close to that guarantee. With the NASCAR race already have been 45min over their inventory would have been used up for that broadcast. If they’d cut into the AFHV time they would have had to have some fairly expensive “make goods” for the advertisers that placed adds on that show. All of these sports contracts COST the networks money. Trust me that Fox or ABC doesn't make any direct money off of them. They're a loss leader and the networks make up the shortfall in other areas. Ideally that is. There'll be a realignment of all the sports contracts within the next few years.
I found that amusing, too. However, with flat or declining ratings, NASCAR races (including pre-races) already scheduled for 4.5 hours, and two red flags (including one for rain, in PHX of all places), what can ya do. gotta pull the plug sometime.
Yeah! And a dog running around in circles is atleast funny. Even if he is going left. FOLLOW the F1 Rule - Race is to not exceed more than 2 hours. At 2 hours the race ends with the whomever is in the lead at that point. Oh Wait! Your talkin about Nascar. They haven't figured out that concept yet. 4.5 Hours! HOLY **** I can't even stand to see it when I scan through the channel, let alone for 4.5 hours.
And what happens if the driver has to pee during that 4.5 hours and two red flags?????????? Astronaut bags?????I mean, at Sebring and Lemans we switch drivers........
Here is a funny video. Check it out at about the 1:20 mark. Thank god these cars don't have a V-8+. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zcd_Md_jsVA
What an idiot! How do you screw up on a Parade lap like that fool.;o Then you hear a guy yell "Play more Gran Turismo". That's just brilliant. Also the moron at the 1:04 mark.
It's easy, may drivers have even pros. This guy was just tooling around and lost it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtIELJByL0E&fmt=18
