I have been trying to reach Dick Fritz for a month to no avail. After leaving repeated voicemails and emails, I am resorting to the board for some ideas. He and I spoke of a custom SS exhaust for a Boxer, which I have seen on another car and really liked, and I would like to pursue potentially buying one from him.

If anyone knows of an alternate # there, or if Amerispec is in your neck of the woods and you can stop by and see if they are still in business, I would be most appreciative.

    Thanks

I was under the impression Amerispec went out of business? No?

If so, it must have been sometime during mid to late 2004, as I bought some things from them in May and I know they were still conforming cars at the time. They still have a message on their machine as well.

Interesting... I sent them an email just after Christmas, but I figured either they don't reply to email or it got lost in the Christmas/end of year rush.

I noticed that in the recent past (i.e. December) Amerispec had some ads in FML, but I don't see any in this issue. I wonder if they did go out of business, or alternatively, is it possible that he goes on vacation in January or something like that?

All I can pass on is that he was very responsive earlier in 2004 - I had a few long conversations with him and the phone was usually answered, or my call was returned quickly. It would be a shame if they did go under, as Dick had lots of Boxer knowledge and is/was a real commodity in the Ferrari community for a long time, not to mention some of the specialty parts they made. The exhaust that I refer to is beautiful and sounds even better. It is a four glasspack unit staggered on a rack with two resonator cans. Each exhaust tip has its own can. I might be able to have one fabricated, but it would be so much easier to buy one from him.

Thanks - He was away and I just got off the phone with him. For anyone considering a new exhaust for their Boxer, I suggest you look at his since from what I saw of it, it was really well designed and it sounded the way a 12 should. If I can justify the expense, I am going for it.

I agree they are very poor about communications. I twice faxed a request in November, 2004, for verification of DOT/EPA they supposedly had done on a car I was sourcing, and at no time did I get a reply.

Phones calls just rang with no voice mail!

I pulled this thread up just to see what happened to that company. I can hardly believe they are still around. I remember reading about his projects WAY back in high school. Probably 82 or 83.

I recently ran into Dick Fritz at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance in Connecticut on November 2, 2021. I am happy to report he is alive and well (see attached photo) and serving as the Ferrari judge par excellence. He's agreed to do an extensive interview with me for a forthcoming issue of Forza Magazine, but as you may have noticed, he is a bit hard to reach! As an elder Tifosi myself, I can attest to the well intentioned but nevertheless frustrating tendency to let phone message wriggle under the bridge of life's flow from time to time, but if I (and any of my readers here or in Forza) have patience, I am sure we will get our just rewards.

Mr. Fritz! Your many fans, admirers and clients call you! Inquiring minds want to know. "Please, Please Us" (John Lennon - Paul McCartney)
