I had a friend pitch me on this stuff (he apparently purchased a distributorship). I use Mobile 1 in my exotics. I might try this in the daily drivers just to help him out. But, anyone have feedback on Amsoil?
    Thanks

Generally, it's good stuff. Some guys on here and other auto website swear by it. Others like different brands. Me, I use Castrol, Mobil 1, Red Line fluids, depending on what I'm putting it in. My old Jaguar XKE, I use Castrol GTX in the crankcase and Red Line MTL in the transmission, Red Line 75W90 in the differential. My 308 runs Castrol GTX in the crankcase and Red Line 75W90NS (with a little of the 75W90 hypoid modified added in for good measure) in the transaxle. My C5 Corvette Z06 gets Mobil 1 in the crankcase, Red Line Synthetic ATF in the tranny and Red Line 75W90 in the differential.

Some folks love Royal Purple products. For others its all Amsoil. IMHO, they are probably all fairly close to one another, and if you are changing your fluids fairly regularly, you'll do fine with any of the major brands. More important is to use the proper weight oils for your applications than worrying about brands names. Unless you are running under very severe conditions (i.e., full-out racing), they will all be about the same.

(Putting on my Nomex 3-layer driving suit, Nomex sox and underwear, racing shoes and helmet -visor down, of course- in anticipation of the flame throwing that is about to commence based on these comments.... LOL)

I've used Amsoil products from time to time since the early 70's. It was the first company to make a 100% synthetic oil that met API requirements.

I particularly like their gear oil products. The viscosity in extreme cold (important here) is much lower than dead dinosaurs.

They make a good product. I just don't like the MLM distribution model they use. I guess I'm also soured from overzealous dealers spamming forums, er... um... lists since the old usenet days.

Just a note as to it's formulation - Amsoil have also been forced to remove some "good stuff" - From rifledriver:

There are a couple of big distributors here that work the major shows and fairs. The parts stores here carry many of the products now as well.

I was never a big fan of the MLM thing in the early years, my dad spent thousands that he never got back as a "distributor" buying inventory that he either sold at cost or gave away. Direct-marketing wasn't his thing.

Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know it was an MLM program. I frankly hate those marketing methods as they distract good workers from doing what makes real money for things that promise quick returns. Nothing easy ever works in my opinion. Now, I won't let it in my company's door!

Don't be so hard on them. The business has changed a lot since the 70's and the products are still good. You don't have to be a distributor to buy the stuff anymore.

Not a problem, just won't let someone come into my company and pitch any MLM products. It is a personal policy of mine. I have over 500 employees and don't need them distracted by MLM programs.
    Thanks,
    Scott
