I spent some good seat time the other day in both a 6sp and a paddle shift car. Got some good, real road(in n cal thats a road with great curves and crappy repaired surfaces~!) twisties, some highway and around town. Loved the chasis, the sound and the feel of the car. Stunning design, great interior too. Not tt or fcar fast but very quick. One car had a tubi and the sound was deep and evocative. Handliing was tight, braking excellent and car control very neutral and predictable.
The paddle shift has a great feature, unlike the Ferrari version, when you engage 1st or reverse the car will smoothly creep along, up to about 5mph. Great for parking, slow manuevers etc.
The sport shifting was quick and crisp with a hyper speed shift(when above a certain rpm and throttle input) that rivals the cs.
I would be super interested to hear some owner feedback or impressions from others who have driven or been interested in the car.

Depreciation will make these very hard to pass up in a couple of years...

Hey Jon, yes I wondered how they might fall. Seems clear they will hold up better than the bigger models as they are quite attractive at $95-100k imo. I was figuring they might see 35% depreciation in 2-3 years so if a $125 sticker it would bring prices to low 80's. Seems reasonable if I can drive a fully warrantied car for two years and it only costs $12 to 17k depending.

I have been looking at them for several weeks trying to decide between a 2006 Vantage or a 2005 Continental GT. The Vantages have depreciated below the $100k mark here in Dallas ( and this is a $140K car 12 months ago). They drive great and I love the looks. Even the AM dealer here in Dallas has one with 5K miles they would sell for $103K. Bargain in my book but the Bentleys are getting there also.

I have driven a good friends paddle shifter amv8 coupe on several occasions...the paddle shifter were very sub par compared to the 430 and 360 f1 systems and the lambo e gear and the M5 smg 3, was slower shifting....the car has a nice stiff chassis slightly more body roll than 360-430 and carrera s porsche....engine had a nice sound....the car is very unpowered by modern standard, with 380 hp in a car that weights 3500 lbs, not quick at all compared to f cars,a M5, a lambo or even regular 911...0-60 around 5.0 is quick at all these days.....the styling a nice but the car is very small looking in person which makes it look less aggressive...the astons build quality and reliability havae alway been suspect so the jury is out on AMV being dependable...depreciation has been and will continue to be rapid and in a few years they can be picked up very cheaply....

12 Cylinder, Twin Turbo,6 Liters,0-60 in 4.6 seconds, top speed 193. Yep, I would consider it a sports car.

i think the vantage trans is a torque converter automatic with paddle over ride like on a porsche tiptronic. it is not a true 2 pedal manual like ferrari or smg. its definitely not a dual clutch like vw dsm system.

True 6k is pretty heavy, but makes the 0-60 even more impressive. Doubt many will track them, could be a novelty...

Wouldn't they really fall more into a "Grand Touring" category like the Porsche 928?

The thing that always held me back from the aston was the motor. HP seems adequate but it apparently has lazy throttle response and lacks "snap" . Basicaly an exotic without the exotic motor. If aston made these with say a BMwM3 v8 it would really have something, as it is the car struggles in the performance stakes against the Jag.

Certainly the v8 is the best looking car this decade.

The Vantage is really good looking imho. Love the lines. There seems to be a lot of 2006s on the market for less than $100K when they were $138K list 12 months ago. Where is the bottom on depreciation? Too many awesome cars in that price range to consider.
