The Enzo and the Maranello. The Enzo can, of course, take the Maranello in all but one category. That one is making a realistic car. When my wife drives with me to Las Vegas, she MUST have certain things with her. Among them are some clothes and make up. Without them, she is not around. The Maranello can carry freight. The Enzo cannot. Without the ability to carry my womans luggage, the car is useless. An Enzo is useless. A V-12 is smooth. ps: I am married.
You are wrong this makes the Enzo even more practical as you have to leave the wife at home.Just think of the amount of "substitute Wives you could "have" in "Vegas"
There's one fault with this program, though Long after he gets back from Vegas, she keeps the Enzo. Aye, there's the rub...
The thing is that MOST Enzo owners do not really care. If they take the car on a "road trip" and cannot fit clothes, they will buy clothes at their destination.
That was exactly my thought when i first heard about this thread over the phone last night... Not to stereotype NNO owners, but i'm sure most of them can just buy new clothes upon destination arrival... A little presumptuous and obnoxious, but... ...anyway, Bart, your love affair with the Maranello is a bit unctuous, no...? i mean, the NNO is hardly useless; it's not a GT car, therefore, lumping the Maranello and the NNO in the same class is a little ridiculous... There are things about the 355 that the Maranello can't hold a candle to, but they're separate animals, thus we try not to compare the two... Just my two rubles (CCCP)...
...which was duly noted last night in a similar discussion, however, there IS a difference... For one, i don't an NNO, so my advocation is borne from a different emotion. Bart's passion for Ferraris and 550s in general, is awesome, don't get me wrong... It just seems like, in his eyes, the Maranello can do no wrong and there's something wrong with every other car that puts it BELOW the Maranello...
I see what you're saying. I, for one, can point out many a fault in the Maranello. Different strokes for different folks... BTW, when do we see a DES-authored article in FML? I have been waiting. --Dan
Interestingly enough, Jay Kay (of Jamiroqui) was on UK TV a couple of days back showing off his car collection. His Enzo was away getting new tyres, but his 550 was there and he described it as one of the greatest cars ever made. Others in this thread are entirely right. 550 and Enzo are different cars made for different things. Enzo is purely about speed. Get in it, have a blast on a sunny day, then come back home. 550 is something you could use to visit Paris for the weekend with a grin on your face the whole way there and the whole back. Two fab cars. I'll have one of each please. Who's paying?
...and i'm sure all the faults you point out would be valid; i cannot point out any "real" faults as i'm not an owner; when it comes down to it, , i'm just opinionated... So have i...! LOL, actually, i've compiled some stuff for the Giornale already; was in issue 2910; nothing big, just news... i, too, am waiting for the opportunity to author a front page, headline news, "extra, extra, read all about it!"-type article, but i can't pinpoint when that might be... i can comfortably assume September, after Monterey, but maybe something will pop up before then, i'm not sure... i've been doing a lot of site renovation, so if you're an online subscriber, you'll see some changes and some improvements beginning in issue 2911... We've got some ideas and some really cool new features we want to implement into the online edition in the coming issues, so i'm working with the web company on getting some of that done and just doing the rest of the work in-house... Pretty cool stuff... If i'm not working with pictures of Ferraris, i'm working with information on Ferraris and both mediums are a learning process, all the while that i'm working on them... It's a really cool job and the stories i hear about in between are just mind-blowing... i keep urging Gerald to do an article about some of his past experiences... If not in the print edition, at least make it an extra on the site... Very cool stuff; i'm very happy here... ...um, ok, i'm babbling.
Hmmm, how last I looked most public roads in the world are speed limited (? confused at the point of the Enzo). Agree, but from a complete point of view the 550 IS a better road car. As you will all know, I have never understood the Enzo. Great car and all, and yes the strange looks have grown on me ... but the fact that it was built for the road I just cannot understand. All that performance for nothing ... Anyway both awesome cars, but I'd choose the 550 and spend the rest on a real race car Pete
Pete, my sentiments exactly. An Enzo is a masterpiece of Engineering Excellenece, but in the real word a 550 is a masterpiece of a road car. Saying that what I wouldn't do for an Enzo or better yet a McLaren F1. Tony
Don't complaint Bart, if you don't like it just don't get it then. If you want to be practical, why even bother getting the 550?? Lots of SUV out there with much more space. Let someone else have the Enzo
So do I. I am crazy about my 550. I make sure I drive it every day. Be it to the store, the office or attacking the hills at night. My wife drives it as well. The difference is that I don't feel the need to post a weekly, "Hooray for me and f*ck you" thread about it. To each his own. DL
I am prepared to bet fabulous sums of money that EVERY Enzo owner has at least one other vehicle suitable for driving his wife around. I don't quite get the issue here? The same reason applies to why I wouldn't drive an Enzo to Vegas and why I wouldn't expect to attract any attention from the opposite sex while driving a GM Minivan. It's just not the right car for the purpose. It certainly doesn't mean I don't want an Enzo (I don't want a GM anything BTW, just for the record.)
Pardon my newbness, but I have a small query: why is NNO the only one who refers to the Enzo as an NNO? Is that some sort of chassis code?
Sound it out mate. NNO is a bastardised way of saying Enzo. Please note that 'Des/Carbon/NNO/Formerly known as Prince' is definitely refering to his favourite Ferrari and not Enzo Ferrari the person. Pete
