Today the NW chapter of the Ferrari Club had a very fun activity & did something very worthy at the same time.
We met for a nice brunch, then went to our local Veteran's Home to display the cars & give rides-about 15 minutes per Resident. It was tremendous fun for us & I'm told that the Veteran's just glowed. ( I know the ones I gave rides to were VERY grateful.)
We made it a fund raiser too. We brought books, videos, phone & store cards, and clothes that were no longer needed. We gave cash & had an auction of a beautiful Ferrari poster & then gave the total sum to the Home's Activities Director.
This is just a suggestion of something you may really enjoy doing. You can be creative & construct the event in a way that suits your individual site.
Anyway, we had tremendous fun & felt good about doing something for those who have helped to maintain our freedoms.

I guess if your Ferrari goes off the road with a veteran in the passenger seat, it is not as bad as with a kid...at least in terms of how many lawyers you will have after you (ferrari going off the road is never good, unless it is a Jerrari).
I got married near Yountville. How abiout we propose this as an FCA club activity to Gil?

    Byron,
That sounds like a great event for Ferrari Clubs... I agree - having another group benefit from the club is always very rewarding.

Just saw the pictures... what a great turnout!

Liability wasn't something we addressed. I think the club has umbrella coverage for our sanctioned events.
We didn't drive quite as "spiritedly" with the Veterans in the car as we do on out in the country type drives. And I drove the route several times myself the week before our event, as well as taking our whole group on the same circuit before we picked up the Residents.
Today the Activities Director called me to say that there were 2 VERY reclusive Residents who never smiled, never talked to anyone, seldom left their rooms. Both of them were out the entire time the cars were there, talked readily to Club Members, and both took rides. Neither had left the Home to go on any activities for years. One guy even took a 2nd ride. The staff was absolutely amazed & extremely pleased.
A day later, the Residents are still grinning & talking about how wonderful it was. They are already looking forward to next year.
This is very rewarding to hear. They know we respect & honor them, & we know they tremendously appreciated us.
    Ahhh, life is good !

Actually, while not specifically addressed with respect to this event, the board (our local NWRFCA board that is) has discussed the issue of liability on club events where club members offer rides. We've spoken with the FCA legal adviser and our insurance carrier, and with minor precautions feel we're adequately covered. The minor precaution is to have each driver and rider sign liabilty waivers at the event. Not that a waiver is worth anything more than the paper it's written on (my own persoanl opinion there), but it raises awareness of the need to be particularly cautious when carrying passengers.

But of course, the smart thing for any club to do would be to check with their legal and insurance advisors personally and determine what actions they may or may not need to take to be safe. They're the ones you pay for, and from whom you should seek advice: mine is probably only worth as much as you've paid me for it...

Here's an idea on the Northwest forum I particularly like:

"We are also looking at having 'baseball' cards printed up with pictures and specs of our cars on them to hand out to the kids."
