I note that both here and on various outlets like autotrader, ebay etc that many cars are described as "finest example", "perfect", "runs great"...etc

Then like today I get a PM from a F chatter here that tells me and his ad says it is in pristine shape, none finer ,etc that by the way it needs a "major NOW!!!!!!

Surely folks realize that question will come up? Just tell it up front in the ad; the price is always sweet and then you know why;anyone else note this, and hey its not just F cars either. Got some paperwork on a PANZOZ ESPERANTE I am looking to buy in addition to the F car and the broker sends me some paperwork I asked for, did he not look at it? It was a repair order from body damage for $2865 to the front end; HELLO, did you want to disclose that..........sorry for the small rant, dog

that behavior is exactly why i don't trust anyone selling a product (or car) ....always trying to slide something past you, in order to secure a sale
unrelated, i had a building owner who i over heard telling her staff, to 'only' show prospective tenants the 2 show suites, even though they would be getting lesser suites in actuality "it'll be to late once i have their deposit already" ....scoundrals everywhere it seems like! :(

Most lie when selling a car, some more than others. It seems the more flowery the ad the more they're hiding stuff.

I saw an ad recently where the car was described as being a "cream puff".... RUN! Who talks like that anymore anyway?

If you didn't say these things, no one would respond.

You need to see the movie Used Cars-- it explains everything.

Just because the car needs a service, doesn't mean it isn't 'perfect', etc.

Many people who have never owned a Ferrari, have this notion that if the car needs a service, it is an OMG moment. What would you do if you were buying any other car? You would probably just go service it. In this case, you can actually have it serviced the way YOU want it done, and by someone of your choice.

More important is the overall service history. Has it been maintained? If yes...... just check the car out either personally, if you know what you are doing..... or professionally if you don't.

On another note..... he actually told you that it needed a service and didn't hide it.

Well maybe the car is in great shape, the need for a major does not in itself, indicate any "real" problems or general lack of maintenance and maybe you'd prefer to take the car to a shop you know (I might prefer it that way, then I would know exactly what was done and by who). The selling price should be adjusted accordingly...of course.

It is possible, that they wanted to share the FULL history, rather than have you accuse them of trying to "pull the wool." After all, it doesn't take much to add up to $3K of damage these days, especially on a Panoz or Ferrari.

    Regards,
    Bill
