Here we are again, took the 355 out for a nice meet with a few friends. Drove 350-400 miles of nice empty roads and the car was phenomenal. Didn't miss a beat and kept up with much newer machinery. I did feel like the brakes/suspension are in need up some updating and the slow steering rack is annoying. The car was brilliant and sounds amazing. Didn't notice any issues at all and felt great....and here I was thinking I need to drive it more often. Stopped and watched F1 with friends and noticed on the way home that F1 pump sound weird, weird light popping on in the bottom left of the dash and the car does not want to shift.....get home and boom- pink puddle in the driveway. Looks to be leaking F1 fluid again, just had it fixed a year ago. Time to fix it again.

Despite all this I still love it.

Its been the last 3 or 4 times I have taken it out for a serious ride that something new breaks... Yet I can't imagine selling it. Good news is there are only a handful of parts not yet replaced at this point.

If all that is wrong is a leak at the bleeder tube or fitting that is a very easy fix.

There is a way to make an unreliable ferrari reliable. Unfortunately, I think diy guys are most capable of doing this because they just don't have shop time pressure to turn customer cars out. But occasionally you can find a shop who can do it. How you would find one is beyond me. The key is to sort everything starting with the wiring harness so that you have the possibility of good running. Then you need to have a hard look at the various systems and modify outside of Ferrari compromises for reliability and performance. You also need to understand Ferrari is the hot girl from accross the room every guy wants, but when you get close you realize she has BO. When in doubt Ferrari built your car using the lowest bidder. I bought this 550 from an Fchat member who gave up on this lemon with a stack of receipts to prove it. But it has been 100% reliable for me for nearly 2 decades. Simple things can strand you like the universal bad radiator caps in 550's. You have to buy a new bag of them to find one or two that work. Instead I used an ordinary radiator cap cutting off the old bung and welding on a new billet aluminum one and even dressed the generic pressure cap. Now I have toyota reliability in the coolant pressure system and my engine bay looks more cool. There are many things like this to improve your reliability.
