How do you feel about it?

I'm having some thoughts about one of my cars...not sure what I'm going to do.

It feels very good to have a clean slate. I love the thought of being able to buy ANYTHING...and I'm going to wait a while to really evaluate what I'd really like (old/new, roadster/coupe/Jeep-type thing, etc.)

After a number of years of ownership, it feels less like you're maintaining it for your future, and more like you're just maintaining it. Once you turn into a custodian or historian, it's time to release it to the next owner....you're already taking care of it for them, so why not?

I realize that two years is probably my true "sweet spot" for hobby cars.

These are sage words. As much as I hate to admit it, these are the feelings I'm having about my E-Type. I've had it about 8 years, and now I feel like I'm just a custodian.

I love the car - really love it. There's a link with British cars to my youth, so there's sentimentality, not to mention the collectibility / value of the car. Yet, I find my newly acquired 308 is getting much more attention and I drive it so much more than the Jag.

My intention was to keep the Jag until my oldest daughter was nearing college age, then selling it to help fund both kids (I do have some money saved up, this would supplement). Wondering if the time is right now...

When I'd mention thoughts of selling, those around me would respond with NO! YOU CAN'T!

    I'd listen to them.

I finally listened to me...I was keeping it in good shape for (a.) the next owner, and (b.) the people around me who liked knowing they knew someone with a cool car, or with that particular cool car.

And it never stopped being fun, it just wasn't the same fun.

I tried to explain this to a friend who admitted he was living vicariously through me, by asking, "Remember the best toy you ever got as a kid? What if with each year's Christmas or birthday, you'd get that same toy in the same wrapper again? You'd still like the toy, but you'd recognize the other stuff you couldn't enjoy as a result of holding it so long."

It can be a big step to let go of something you have an attachment to. I wish I could do that with my 928.. but I can't. Perhaps one day if I encounter someone who will really love it.

I hope the new owner has many many good memories.

I'm not there yet, but I'm feeling it. A little pressure from the kids and friends to keep it, but I know the significance of the car. Just isn't quite the same "fun" - I drive a car for the hoot, not so much the prestige.

The 308 is like a go-kart, which is why I almost always reach for the keys...

I hear ya... even though I haven't pulled the trigger on a 308 yet... I can imagine it gets priority when it comes to driving fun. My friends have been telling me forget about a 308... the Jag is enough to enjoy. But its 2 different animals and I know how much it must pain you to part with the E. When and if I get a 308 soon I know I'll be in the same predicament with the Jag. Then there's the maintenance and upkeep.. if if you don't use either much, you need to change oil and check everything on a regular basis.. I have 3 cars, 5 bikes and no mechanic on staff, so I know a bit about the time needed just to keep everything in proper running order. All I can tell you Rich, is to take LOTS of photos of the Jag and 308 together. Two all-time classics together..at least you'll always have that look at and know you 'had it all'

I know for some it's a privacy issue, but for the sake of market curiosity that we all seem to have here, would you AND the new owner care to tell us the price to change hands? I've never seen a yellow 328. I'd be curious to know what such a unique color would command.

If neither of you are comfortable sharing that info, I completely understand.

Great work, do you have any plans of getting another F-car?

Someday! Just not today. After 7 years of steak, I'd like some lobster. Or maybe even some Cracker Jacks!

As for the other questions of deal or new owner info, I'm really not at liberty to discuss, in deference to the new owner. I'm sure all (or some) will be revealed in time...

Wow, that looks great in yellow!

I've gone through lots of sports cars in my life and they usually only keep my attention for a couple years. I have to say though the 355 is my first Ferrari and I have only had it 7-8 months, but I don't think I have ever enjoyed a car this much. For the first time I think I have a car they will be selling at my estate sale after I'm gone. :)
