Just received this book, a compendium of car reviews by Mel Nichols, editor of CAR magazine in the 70s and 80s. It includes the wonderful story of driving three Lamborghinis from Italy to the UK.

More relevant to this group, there is also a great review of the Ferrari 400i (p309-316), Mr Nichols loves in particular the car's elegant styling. There is also an insightful discussion of the merits of auto vs manual gearbox.

    Much recommended.

    Hi Nick,

I have recently read your blurb with regards your blue 400 in a classic car mag. (And that you have recently procured a 612 Scag, too......!!) Can you pse let me know if you have encountered any issues with lumpy running or misfiring from possible underuse....?

I have had slung in the boot of my 400i the buying points of a couple of magazines from the previous owner. Clearly owning the car for a fortnight has left me time to read these reviews. Fortunately, it has indicated the valid concerns over rust and bodywork costs, but not specific behaviour of the engine...misfiring etc... sooty spark plugs etc...

Thank you for any help in this matter.

    David

Nichols, Fraser, Blain et al have a lot to answer for. Between them I think they engendered a love for Italian supercars to a couple of generations of kids through their irreverant aussie view of the world!

I was an early owner of Mel's book and it bought back many memories (I had read nearly all the stories in Car back in the day..)

    A must read.

David, thanks, also saw your other post with excellent advice from other forum members.
I did have an issue last year of a similar kind and it was the k-jetronic system, so this is the most likely culprit.

Have you had the car looked at by QV in Windsor, they are experienced guys and maintain several UK 400s. Would fully recommend Mike and the team.
