FROM THE FERRARI OWNERS WEBSITE Dino! ¿ Our users have voted the Dino 246 GT the most beautiful classic Ferrari of all time. The first survey to be published on the new Forum in fact saw the Dino, which was produced from 1969 to 1974 in three series, take a sizeable lead over the 250 GTO and the 300 P4. The P4 headed off the 250 California for third place by a single vote. From race to road ¿ and back again! ¿ Racing brings a multitude of innovations and improvements to road cars. But it¿s a less well-known fact that the opposite is often true. In a fascinating article that looks back at over 100 years of motor sport, LJK Setright sets out to trace some of the major advances in the art of creating automobiles. I find it quite ironic that there are some who do not consider the Dino to be a real Ferrari. I guess this settles the issue. Irony works in strange ways.
Theres something wrong here! everybody knows that the Lusso is a much prettier car than the Dino! I mean really! Some people!
I really love the Lusso and hope to own one one day. I think what is really special about the Dino is that its design was really innovative. Its beauty is also in the engineering. Its shape is aerodynamically efficient, the glasshouse is designed for incredible visability as well as heat ventilation and access to the motor, has a usable trunk and a great driver position. The styling is breathtaking, timeless and iconic. It influenced the the whole evolution of smaller, mid engined Ferraris. It is still evident in today's new F430. It still stands today as the most beautiful and pure of all. The Dino is also one of the most fun to drive of all Ferrari. The fact that it was also the most affordable shows how creative it was. It is also nice to see Ferrari validate the Dino 246GT as a Ferrari. The Dino's character and beauty is so strong that it doesn't require it. I proudly have no Ferrari emblems on my "Dino" except on its original chassis plate. If anyone has a nice Lusso for an affordable price please let me know. Freeman Thomas
The Dino is definitely a beautiful car and the technology is also impressive.I was just trying to Rib ya a little with my post.I do however, find the Lusso to be the more beautiful and exotic(erotic?) of the two.a few years back,I had the pleasure of driving and showing a nice Lusso at the Newport/Orange county concourse in San Juan Capistrano. The more that I looked at the car,The more that I realized that theres Not a bad nor awkward angle on the car.It all just flows perfectly and works.but hey thats just my opinion and "Hey what do I know?" Tim. Remember "The 707 is a great sky diving platform"
I, too, think the Lusso is beautiful. But.... Respectfully, I think there is a very awkward angle. It's around the trailing bottom edge of the rear side window. The sharp point doesn't work for me. It was beautifully corrected in cars theat followed, such as... oh... maybe....say.... the 330 GTC.
I think if someone is going to heap praise on all these beautiful Ferraris, that at least SOME mention should be made of the fact that Pininfarina is responsible for the body design on most or all of them, not Ferrari. OK, I'll do it. Nice job, Pininfarina !!!!
I have tried to read the article on the owners website about the 246GT, but even though I am logged on, and I can read the other articles just above and below the Dino article, I can't get the Dino link to work. All I get is a blank screen. Anyone else have the same problem? Any ideas? Thanks - Mark
The 246 GT Dino was my first Ferrari. I was drawn to it because of its extraordinary beautiful lines from every angle, to me it epitomized what in my mind was the classic Ferrari look. This was before I attained knowledge of the different models. I now have a new modern F-car with 12 cylinders, which fulfills a different aspect of auto appreciation, but what I really find myself doing most, is lavishing my thoughts and attention and money on improving the old girl. I simply cannot go through my shop without appreciating this little gem and sneaking another look from a different angle and in different light, but what really moves me is the driving experiance. The ease of piloting this car is legendary, its nibbleness and its handling, shame larger cars with its ability to turn in quickly and take most corners with astonishing speed and aplome, in short, balance! Yes! Enzo meant to honor his lost son with a car named after him and not in the shadow of Enzo's famous mark, hence the lack of the Ferrari badging, but Ferrari it was and Ferrari it is, Enzo's intentions were clear Dino did much work on the V-6, this being the Formula 1 motor for ferrari for several years. With Dino's engineering background he professed to the company that the V-6 was the most efficient from a frictional loss standpoint and hence more power per cu. in. than motors with more cylinders, he was right. The Dino engine is a productionized version of the Ferrari designed formula 1 motor. Fiat was chosen to cast and machine some of the motor based on that design, it was then sent to Ferrari for completion and was assembled by Ferrari mechanics at Ferrari. So begins the legend and after all these years the story is finally revealed and acknoweged by its maker, and so begins another chapter of this legends life. To all who posses this wonderful car, they know what is said is the truth and wish to share their gratefulness in ownership and kinship with other owners. This is a car, whose time has come and whose legend lives on. Best regards Gary
That's very true, and it nice to give credit where it's due. I'll give a special mention to Scaglietti for creations like the GTO and LM. --Matt
