Sure Malvin, it can be removed as you can see on the guide. But be carefull with gasket to not damage it. The gasket must perfectly seal the glass otherwise, you'll get troubles with water vapor and dirt inside.

It's interesting that they hand drilled the holes! Must be a hell of a work ;)
Good luck buddy with your gearbox issues ;) I hope it's nothing serious. Keep us in touch who it got resolved.
M/M/M, that's a cool trip ;) You gonna drive all the way down? with your F430? I'll check about GoodWood Revival. I never heard about this event before ;)
    Take care,

The LEDs I ordered via bay arrived today. Very neat stuff but the rubber encasing was way too thick to even past the mid point of the tunnel, so i had to shave and trim away the plastic casing to make way. Trouble now is, a really stupid question, but how do I remove the h6 bulb from the socket without breaking it?

Good received your LED strip. But, yes, as I wrote before, this path is quite tricky as it is getting narrower from the middle and really narrow at the end.

To remove the h6 bulb, just turn it a bit clockwise while pushing it a bit inwards. It should get out very easily and if not, don't force and try again.
    Good luck

So it's got some sort of spring mechanism? Ok. I'll try. I saw tabs on both sides of the tail end yellow socket and was going to pry that open to release the bulb. Thank god I didn't do that.

Yes, you're right, this is a spring at the bottom of the bulb holder ;)

Ok, I finally got the LED lights from LEDtronics but now I need to find the cristal tubes. Do you have any suggestions on where I can get some? I tried looking at some of the local shops without luck. Maybe you could help if you don't mind?

Thanks guys for the help! Here is an image I took of the finished project. Managed to pull off the stunt a couple of weeks back and the scars and bruises on my knuckles have finally recovered. Blew a 5Amp fuse, thats about it. Not much drama afterall except having the missus nag at me all day for waking up at 4 in the morning and spending hours in the garage when I wouldn't even bother to change the wiper blades on her car.

    Enjoy!

Waaaw, that's very well done!!! Brilliant :D. I'm impressed you got all the LED's perfectly aligned and all seem to be perfectly upwards. How did you manage to get them all upwards?

Did you use the SMD 5050 LEDs?

Yes Stef, the same ones you recommended me get from eBay. Thanks muchies for the help and recommendation. How did I do it. Nothing different from your technique. Except I didn't use the cystal tubing. The SMD LED came encased in silicone but I ended up stripping it all off as I could hardly fit the strip into the light tunnel, couldn't even get it past the mid point. I tapered the end and using a 2inch forward and 1inch back motion, I managed by luck to get the strip all the way in to the end without twisting or bending it. I'm happy with the results though they are not exactly all facing up but in the light coupled with the intensity of the LEDs, its really hard to tell.

Many many thanks to you and the many people who have stepped up and offered advice. Couldn't have done it without you guys.

With great pleasure Malvin. You succeeded very well in getting them facing up. It's something I still need to redo to get them right once I'll get a bit free time ;) Mine were not too bad when I installed them but since, they moved a bit and 1/3 of them aren't facing up anymore.

How do they move if you had the crystal tubing to hold them up? Mine were measured exactly so the holder for the bulb locks right into the socket. So I believe they should not move but then again, for someone who can blow the 5Amp fuse just by hooking up the LEDs, I CAN BE WRONG. LOL.

Actually, they moved only in the middle even with the plastic tubing. Only one headlight for now on the LHS, must be cornering the left turns too fast LOL. I will try out another method :remove them from the plastic tubing , glue a plastic rod on the back of the LED string and fit like this in the light tunnel. I think Anders had this in mind also. But that will be for much later as we don't need much light with the longer days ;)

hey hey, especially in your country where night starts everyday at 6:30pm, you can enjoy much more the lights :D I remember very well when I lived there how much is made me depressing ;) Here, we have to wait now until next autumn for that but in the main time, we have the chance to enjoy many many long days and drives ;)

BTW : a new technology is progressing very very fast now. It's called LEP for Light Emitting Plasma. From a bulb of the size of a single Tic Tac, with the LEP technology, over 20.000 Lumens of light can be generated !!!

Watching the day this LEP and LiFi will be introduced to the car industry which would replace Xenon headlights and any LED application where high brightness is needed.

Before I plugged in the led strips, I actually tested the led bulbs which i bought off bay. Cheapo china made ones but they ere 10000k LEDs so they are super white. I must say the results are acceptable for someone who does not want to meddle with the soldering works. Only difference is that at the light does not cover the entire light passage. But it's super bright though.

    Thanks. Very good question ;)

I finally abandonned the SMD5050 LEDS. The reason why is that I was using them a lot and they overheated...They got totally yellow on one section. As there is no ventilation in the headlight tunnel, I suppose they didn't stand the heat.

I finally went to the solution suggested by Anders : Normal LEDS incapsulated into some small lenses. They fit perfectly well in the headlights and it was much easier to get them straight, LEDs facing up. Of course, they are a little less bright than the SMD5050 but these LEDs do not heat at all. I drove now 4/5000 km with them, switched on all time as we do here in Switzerland, and had no issues anymore.

So for me, this is the final solution.

I bought these LEDS on Ebay : 48cm Car White Flexible Grill 48 LED Bulb Strip Light
    Sold by : hi-etech
    Item: 180453537127
    Cost : 2.58$ each !

Any chance of a picture showing your ebay leds on the car day/night, I think I will go with those ones but would love to see the effect first...

    Appreciate all your help!

Also do you need any tubing or anything with those ebay ones, or do they just push straight in..

    You're very welcome.

No tubing needed. You can just push them inside and they'll go easily up to the end. As they are larger and higher than the thin SMD5050 strip, they will not be loose inside. They just fit perfectly well as it was made on purpose for these headlights ;)

I'll take some pictures as soon as I can ;)

Did anyone else experienced the overheating of the SMD5050? Would be interesting to know if it was only me who had this issue.
