Happy 4th of July everyone! Currently, I have an 87 328GTS and a 00 Harley Davidson Deuce that I am currently in the process of trying to sell.

I would like to parlay the proceeds into an Anniversary Countach or a 91’ish Diablo. My initial thought is that the Countach would have been refined over the years, where as the early model Diablo could be somewhat troublesome seeing as though it is basically a first model run. This is however the thought of a novice…that’s why I’m looking for advice from you guy’s. Soooooo…………what do you think?

i think in the long run the anniversary countach will be worth more
    or
at a minimum hold its value better

You can't lose with either car. They have both begun to slowly climb, so forget about losing money if you buy right. They made over 650 Anniversary Countaches. It was a 2 year run. Less than 200 any early year Diablo. In the long run, the early year Diablo will be worth more, because it is lower numbers, superior in performance, and creature comforts. Just go to a '92 Diablo, all the first year problems were fixed.(and there weren't many) You can get a 92 for less than an Anniversary if you shop right. And an early Diablo looks as good as a '99, most layman can't tell the difference. I was at a car show today, with my '99SV, parked next to my buddy in his '92. No one knew which was newer or older. Get the Diablo....its a winner over the Anniversary hands down, unless you just really prefer the Countach design.

Id definenetley say Diablo, the Countach is a bit of problem from the drivers seat IMO, ive sat in one and the pedals seemed close together and i couldnt see out the back at all!

Also i think the Diablo will have a lot better performance figures all around compared to a Countach

    Good luck :)

    very good question.

i know someone who has had one for 4 years ('89 anniv.) and says he's had to do nothin to keep it going except routine fluid and filter changes, and oh yeah, a set of ign. wires ($475 i think he mentioned) and cv boots ($?)

to sum it up, as he puts it :
    - starts right up every time
    - clutch still feels good
    - AC still blows ice cold
    - radio, windows, seats, wipers, turn signals, etc. all elect. work fine
    - running temps approx. 195 deg F steady, even on hot days

there are some common paint "cracks" in certain areas, which depending on over cond. may or may not be a big deal,
his are almost impossible to spot and haven't grown in the time he's had it

    my 2 cents

Thank you all very much. It's nice to have a place to go for sound advice. There's nothing like hearing it directly from the horses (uhm..Bulls) mouth. It sounds like these are rather reliable autos. I think that I'm going to pursue a black on black 92. I've dreamed of owning one of these since I can remember.

    Really? How much better?

I do prefer the dash of the '99s, the fixxed headlights, and the front bumper.

I guess you are asking about performance. The Countach top end was overrated at 190. The Diablo was the first production car to achieve 202. 0-60 times for the Countach were near 5.0, the Diablo was in the very low 4's.

And I do agree with you on the 99's.

I meant as compaired to the later Diablos. I remember Allen posting a '91 (?) hitting 211mph, or something like that. But what are the figures for the different years, and versions?

100% sure the diablo, if u have to ask u dont just "need" a countach, which is an inferiorcar.

    Diablo.
Unless you are talking about the LP 400 periscopa Countach.

Buy the Diablo or an earlier Countach.

The 25th anniversary cars are hideously ugly pimped put versions of what the Countach used to be. The wheels, louvered air intakes and side skirts on the anniversary car ruined the smoothness of the original design IMHO.
