That is CLOSE! It would be nice to compare cars at Memphis. We should display the cars by chassis number.
Last I'd checked a few years ago, their motorcourse track was pretty rough, since they were putting all their money on the big oval. Do you have recent experience with it?
Hey Jim, If I can do a few more things to my car to make it "road-trip" worthy, I'd like to be included. My hometown is in West Tennessee, gives me a chance to go home. James in Denver 1984 308 QV #49531
I don't know if I can make this or not. It would be neat if a few West Coasters could get together and caravan to Memphis. I don't feel like organizing that either. Hotels and all that would be too complicated. I think that before I make that long of a trip I would need to do a lot of stuff to the car, like an Xdi ignition system and rebuild the carbs and fresh belts and . . . We'll see Bob Wassam
You have 11 months....Get moving!!! There is talk on the Ferrari List of a couple West Coasters caravaning out....I'll send out an update as that becomes more serious and we get closer. JIM
if you had eight or ten cars why not rent a car hauler? it would be a lot cheaper than driving. with a year to work out the details it seems like an easy arrangment.
I'd be willing to bet that if a couple guys from out West decided to put something together, they could fill one no problem....Although, these cars WERE made to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though I live in Memphis, I would be glad to drive out to Tulsa or so and meet the group coming from the Left coast. Bob
Sam's Town Tunica (20 to 30 miles south of Memphis) has great experience at car shows. They host the Delta River Cruise-In where over 1000 classic and custom cars older than 1979 gather for a show. They need the number of possible attendees from me to see if it is something they are interested in hosting. The more the merrier!! The casino has a golf course and a relationship with Memphis Motorsports Park for a possible track event. The first 308 gathering on the second or third weekend in October (the third weekend has a scheduled Air Supply concert at Sam's Town so they may not be willing to sacrifice parking) looks like it CAN happen. See all of you (it took great care not to type y'all (of course you know the plural of y'all.... it's all y'all)) in October! Mike PS I expect to see a good number of gt4s there ;-)
OK KIDS>>>>>>THIS IS IT! We are looking for commitments. I have a list of approx 50 of you that have shown interest, we are looking for somewhere over 150-200! It's time to put this on your calendar. 2nd weekend of October (10/11/12) 2008. Please respond to this thread with your SN# (Or PM me) and contact info. I'm keeping a database of people who are attending. We need to get back to Sams Town with a # soon, so please post up and get your 308's ready for Memphis in October!!!! JIM
Just in case you were wondering how for you're going to have to drive to get to this event, here are some references..... Memphis to: St. Louis- 247 Atlanta-332 Evansville, IN- 243 Tulsa, OK- 343 Pensacola-355 Kansas City, MO.-371 Indianapolis-388 Chicago- 483 Fort Wayne-490 (That's what I'll be driving!) Columbus, OH-512 Grand Rapids-591 San Antonio-632 Green Bay-660 Orlando-680 Wash. So what's the host hotel? Hopefully something relatively inexpensive, for the bottomdwellers like me (oh, and ~470 miles from the metromess)
Sam's Town. I need to give them a # of cars/guests so they can give us an idea of what the discounts will be for you (us) bottom dwellers. . JIM
I am having a hard time with this... Alabama football and a Ferrari 308 are my two all time favorite things on this planet, period.
