83 QV, I have an annoying whistle/squeak in the right hand exhaust outlet. rapid intermitant when at idle but constant when under acceleration. I don't notice it while crusing but it may be there. Is there a fix? or must I replace the muffler?

    Thanks
    Dave

No it's actually comming from the far right exhaust tip. I can block it and it stops.

Dave, use the search function in the upper left corner of the page...it has been written about many times, and I have posted on it on most of the threads...it can be easily fixed. Get some stainless steel sheet metal, cut it into a 3 inch by 6 inch section, and wrap it around a broom handle, then insert it into the offending tip or tips...this will cover the perforated metal that is causing the whistle. The springiness of the ss sheet metal will cause it to stay in place. Do not use aluminum or galvanized steel, they will blow out as the metal gets hot...ask me how I know! ;-)

Thanks I will try it. I also will keep in mind the search function. I should have used it in the first place as probably some one has run into most of my problems in the last 23 years.

    Thanks

All you have to do is go to the auto parts store and get a tube of exhaust patch (obviously the high temp stuff) and then squirt some into the tips. Spread it around so it covers the small holes and let it harden. I did this a few weeks ago thanks to advise from a fellow f-chatter. In 5 minutes it turned my 308 from sounding like a VW bug back in to a mean sounding Ferrari.

    Any ?'s just PM me.

I wish I could take full credit but "Doug" (that's his F-Chat screen name) actually told me to do this.

It is easy to do, quick, cheap and very effective!

I just did a quick insert in one, then two and that did the trick. looks strange but works. I may just try the filler and see what it does. I can always put the sheet metal ones back in.

Thanks for the ideas and help

If done right, the inserts should be damn near invisible.....and a little soot in a day or two, and you will never see them.

I did the insert thing on the '83 mondial and works great. I bought them ready made from a company that advertised here in FerrariAds for about $20 I think.
