We had the chance to go out in the red car again, and I was able to open it up a few times going through the gears. Each time I was at or near redline in 2nd or 3rd, I heard "slowdownslowdownslowdown..." coming from the other side of the car.
Is this a common defect in the ferrari V8. or is it just my car?

Just use a bit of duct tape and the sound will stop

Well, if you're serious, you might check your header bolts. I used to get a "death rattle" at high RPMs and it turned out a couple of the bolts at the head were finger loose. Took me six months to track that down; I mean, who ever heard of loose header bolts???

I'm leaning toward the duct tape, but feel this may create other long tem issues.

Oddly enough, only when accompanied by my lady, the same sort of puzzling high pitched sounds loudly eminate from the passenger side of my V12 car also. I wonder, is this defect found in all F-cars and not exclusively plaguing the V8 cars?

It is compromising my driving pleasure, and hurting my ears... :D

I tried a liberal slathering of Valium, it worked to a degree, but is also seemed to hamper the intelligence level of conversation over dinner.

Actually she loves the car and says that if I ever sell it, she's gonna dump me, even if it's replaced with another F-car. Soooo, if I get a 365GTC, I have to keep the 2+2 also, damn :D

Seems that a single supplier to the automotive market must be responsible for that defective part you are talking about in your Ferrari.....I have the same problem in my AMG Benz as well.....heh !!

You know, it seems that you have come up with a viable solution, after all, it is a 2+2.....

Then, I would only have to figure out how to talk her into the back seat, or... :D

Wow, I wonder who the manufacturer is....

We'll have to delve into this deeper, any other affected makes/models?

I have a similar problem on my V twin Ducati. I can't hear the offending noise (thanks to a helmet and ear plugs), but I do feel a pounding on my back after a spirited run.

My initial thought is that it was an artifact of the V twin engine configuration, but now you have me thinking....

Sounds like your embedded controller needs a firmware upgrade from Wife 1.0 to Girlfriend 14.3?

well if it persists, it may be time for an upgrade/replacement of that part; to a newer more robust model that can take lots of abuse!!!!

beyond that, see the 2+2 option;)

Unfortunately that is usually a really expensive fix that you will almost certainly not recoup upon sale of the vehicle....

Why is it that, large applications of cash seem to be the universal remedy for all problems associated with F-cars.

Actualy the part making the noise is easily removed and the car can run just fine without it. Usualy temporary replacements can be found on the roadside and dispensed with prior to returning home and adjusting the offending part. However as with most things on an F-car if proper procedure is not followed catastrofic failure may occur.

Rather than duct tape I think I would smear naval jelly onto the muffler bearing.

I bet that's where that sound is coming from!
