Hey guys, I got my car with an annoying problem. I have to turn the key on and off in a sequence before I can start it.

I do have a key fob, but it appears to be dead. Was this way when I got it.

When I put a new battery in the key fob, will this fix it, or do i need to program it to stop this problem?

    Thanks

You can't program it. It is either programmed or it isn't. Do a search on missing key fob and you will find a bunch of posts. Taz has kindly assembled a document you will find attached to the threads. it outlines the process to program a new set of fobs BUT be sure you buy the set of fobs so you have the new PIN.

    Try a new battery..

if still doesn't work and you only have one key, you might be SOL.

Definitive solution is new alarm module and matching FOBs.. kinda $$$. There might be someone you can send your old alarm unit to and they might be able to program some fobs for you.. not sure.

Congrats on new car. For $57k you got a heck of a deal for a spider F1 with low miles Though seems like you accepted some critters like this when you got it, still a good deal. Let's hope that there will be no more critters.

Like what I always hear here, "there's no such thing as a cheap Ferrari". Don't shoot the messenger.

In any case, once you replace the battery you may need to click it gazillion of times IN CASE the previous owner had another fob (and lost it)that he used to unlock and lock the car. Why? because it has a rolling code. Therefore this fob that is not used will need to catch-up with the rolled codes. Sometimes it will take as much as 100 clicks before the Fob catches up with the current code the immobilizer system has.

On the other hand, if you replace the battery and the LED on the FOB don't light up when pressed it is a bad FOB and you will need a replacement which will cost a pretty penny (thousands). Not sure if you need to replace the whole immobilizer system if you have no base FOB to copy the codes from. Others will chime-in but go with the simple stuff first, replace battery and find out.

    Keep us posted.

Now I have 3 keys, but one FOB, is there a supplier that I can buy from to get another FOB?

Or am I stuck with only one.

There is an Fchatter, his name is Eric that can clone your Fob so you can have spares.

Just search in Fchat with keyword "clone FOB". I'm pretty sure you'll find him.

You are lucky, you have your PIN, and it works. That means you can buy a matched set of 3 matched fobs with a new PIN from Ferrari or from Eric355 or gobble here (likely cheaper) and program the Alarm ECU to accept them. Then she is back to the way she came from the factory. Use these instructions to program the Alarm ECU to accept new fobs. Alternatively, Immofixer has videos showing how to do it. Since you already know how to start her with key alone, you are 3/4s of the way there.
