RM have been super quiet but Sothebys sent out an email over the weekend offering two very special Ferraris for private sale at Monterey in '23

    - 2002 Ferrari F2001b #215

    - 1957 Ferrari 250GT Tour de France #0665GT

So I guess thats 139 Ferraris for sale?

    No.
These are private treaty sales/sealed bid sales that are scheduled during the Monterey car week but have no direct relation to the RM Sotheby's public auctions.

Just for the record - Great, not every day but great, Brass era cars are setting world record prices and are in super high demand. Some at Gooding will bring monster money.

There have been one, maybe two Simplex come to market since Mecum sold the oldest surviving Simplex in approx 2012. Then Bonhams offers the impossibly rare 50HP at their Scottsdale auction and it reaches double its high estimate at $4.6 mm. So in 23 we have what, three, maybe four Simplex on offer across the various Monterey auctions. The Mercer should also do well. We will see

I think the three Simplex will sell well but only Goodings car is nearly as good looking or has as good a story/ provenance when compared to Bonhams early '23 car. That said, Goodings car is the most expensive of the three at $3 - 4 mm so accurately priced. Their Mercer 35-J is also one of the best but at $3 - 4mm about right. It could go to $5 and be both a world record and not crazy expensive. I am amazed that these cars are 110 years old and yet younger collectors are still fascinated by them, kinda blows the theory that collectors by the cars of their youth outta the water!

    $538 - 666 million.

Baring in mind I only included the Mecum auction icons so you can add another $10 - 20 mm to the totals!

Some very interesting results on the RM auction, I think the Barchetta suffered a bit by being so late in the auction.

Lost and found collection, difficult to see those prices in context of the amount of work these cars will require.

Thank you very much Timmmmmmmmmmy! I had the impression that you extracted the list of a database and that you can extract even more info.
What about how many Ferraris and the total estimates?

Further thoughts on the Lost and Found, the numbers that some of those car have sold for look staggering to me in relation to the restoration and in relation to how many new parts some of those cars require, the 500 Mondial, frankly this will amount to nothing more than a new car, would this not have an bearing on its final value?

I agree, some of the prices realized for the Resurrection Collection cars are staggering--the Mondial particularly. The only hope of any upside for it would be to send it to Classiche where they will basically build a new car and charge what, $2mm?
I like the alloy 275 but isn't that market price for a car with no needs?

275 seems to have sold at a very high relative to others in the market though perhaps its history does add some value. Odd as it may be perhaps there was a premium attached to some of these cars by virtue of the fact they will probably be forever know as the "lost and found cars". It is after all fairly rare to find Ferrari's, which in some instances have been owned by one owner for 50 years.

    Maybe I am wrong.

I found this to be must unbelievable, but maybe it's not as bad as it looks...and it sold for 1.7 plus commission. Glad someone will be rebuilding it.

The sales price for 0406MD makes absolutely no sense to my father or me.
Since we're talking about it - my favorite pic of 0406MD w/ Dick Merritt.
This buyer essentially bought a serial number

    The long way home
I was wondering the same. I know legally (forget ethically) the auctioneer can raise bids up to the reserve, but I wasn't sure if that was the case at Broad Arrow. One possibility is that BA had a number of guarantors and they were the absentee bidder(s). Another is that the BA auctioneer used "absentee" bids, rather the Mr. Chandelier and Ms. Lightswitch that more commonly "bid" up to the reserve at other auctions.

In any case, it didn't seem like a good outing for Broad Arrow. Several friends that were there said the room was entirely dead, the bidding slow and laboured and the quality of the cars on offer sub-par, with many plucked off the open market, rather than being fresh, new-to-market.

To drive that home, one friend felt they're entrenching themselves with the likes of Mecum, rather than RM or Gooding, while another referred to them as Broken Arrow. Ouch.

Sorry, I inadvertently deleted my post. Maybe that’s how they open bidding for “no reserve” lots. If so, they should use a better term.

Edit: Yes, she doesn’t use the term “absentee bidder” on reserve auctions. I wonder if it’s some kind of California law.
