Getting close now. I, among others need to sort myself out and get organised. With regard to concourse judging, what is the general opinion of Aussie members, and does it compare to this.. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135215335&postcount=20
I really can't wait for this event - so many Ferrari's in one place! Are you guys that are coming over going to arrive a few days prior to the Rally, or are you planning on coming in and getting out of WA as quick as possible? Any estimates on total number of F-cars? I recall jmillard saying around 50....
Would love to stay longer, but just can't afford time away. Got busy race schedule to prepare for and classic adelaide prep etc. Wife and son coming over too though, so using it as a bit of a break. Coming over sat am, not sure about departure yet, but as soon as all done basically.
Not really. Just ask Carl to give you a set of Judging forms from a previous event. Flick through those and you will get a broad idea. If you're judging, be prepared to piss a LOT of people off. Wealthy people with healthy ego's don't take too kindly to having their pride and joy picked to bits. GOLDEN RULE- If you are not 100% sure about something, DO NOT DEDUCT POINTS. Nobody knows everything about every Ferrari model made. I can't tell you how many times I have seen/heard a Judge make an incorrect statement.
GOLDEN RULE #2 Owner to stand very close by with fan of 50's poking out of top pocket if he wants his polished shiny cam covers/heat shields to score any points at all........ I'm nuts over originality (50%), condition is important (30-40%), couldn't give a rats ass over cleanliness (10-20%).
No - JM has just returned from China and thought the following was applicable - If you cannot decipher anything, then try pulling the corner of your eyes as if you were Chinese. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Phil FCA Concorso rules go to cleanliness, condition and originality but with a slightly different emphasis to USA. Additionally, points are gained/lost for age (or lack thereof) and distance driven to the event. In WA, we will use judges that only judge one category on all the cars - e.g Paintwork - Cleanliness & Condition. This, as far as possible, provides a consistency across all cars and if the judge is harsh or lenient it matters not, because all cars are treated the same. Look forward to seeing you in WA. John
Been lurking for a while and enjoying the discussions. Have a Q re the perth rally Can anybody point me in the direction for more info re the rally dates etc, is this something joe public can come and have a gander or is it for participants only ? as a fan of anything exotic, it would be great to see a big turnout in perth, whe're a bit starved of real exotic sightings over here, so the chance to see more than 1 lonely ferrari would be rather novel cheers RGS
ALthough Perth doesnt seem to have many exotics, i have seen in several different sources (written) that Perth actually has the highest rate per capita of exotic cars in Australia. I dont know if its really true, but i have seen it. I know they sell more Maserati's here per capita than anywere else in the world. even if it is the most per capita, we still only have 1.2m people so i guess theyre still few and far between.
I'm not sure about giving out details, best to talk with John (Millard) about that - its definately not my call. I spoke to Roy (sp?) on Sunday and he did say it wouldn't be advertised. There are plenty of Ferrari's here, if you look in the right places. I have seen about 55 of them in the past ~2yrs. Then add in 11 or so Lamborghini's and many 996TT/GT3's, Masers, AMG's, Maybach etc. (if you consider them exotic) and its not so bad for a small place like Perth.
thanks for the replys, I will wait until John Millard hopefully reads my request and see what he says. I agree pleanty of exotics going around esp considering how small perth just dont get to see them on the road very often, having just returned from the us and london I have had my fill of car spotting to last me for a while yet. Have to say though, off all the exotics I saw the 430 drop top was by far the best, up there with the new aston martins, the worst would have to be the maybachs, had a chance to have a nice close look and they are huge but bloody ugly, first time I saw one i thought it was a hyundai RGS
It's just a personal thing with prorities. Of course a bit of dirt is easy to clean off usually, but surface dust should be treated as transparent. There's so much pettyness with cleaning that is really over rated. Originality, to me, is the most important thing to be right.... it's the hardest to achieve. And I'm a hard bstard to please... I know stupid tiny details, like what stickers (little yellow oval ones) were applied to the road springs on 308's (Carl has a sample I gave him for reproduction by the way). Condition is important, but for example, I'd proritise an original but scruffy distributor with points, over and above a gleaming after market with hall effect. Cleanliness comes last. No point putting icing sugar on dog 5h1t.
Dragon, perth rally your best bet to see these babys is prob sun 23 oct joondalup resort then think it,s kwinana raceway monday, tue they head down south enjoy rizzo
