I have to add the caveat that mine is a spider with some miles, hence what I call a reasonable price on the $50s, which I don't think can be had so easily now.

I don't see the point as you said you don't believe the results of the other one. If the members here have no integrity why start another poll?

 

A poll like this may give you a market snap shot of the US only., after all this is a US based forum.
The european ( english) market to mention just one other part of the world, is very much ahead of the US in tearms of prices. Not to mention the indian or chinese markets which seem to be hungry for the older ferraris.

 

I like the concept. To do it better, you need one poll for each model. The main difference is separation of berlinetta with GTS and spiders. So no real way to gauge what each model is selling for regularly or how much work is needed to bring each car to 100%.

Kind of like Haggerty which we all agree is on the useless side as far as getting to brass tacks. Wish it could be better, but people don't want others to be able to know what they paid because they are afraid it will follow them around when they want to sell for a profit.

That's right, we're forgetting that B's carry a $50k premium over spiders even though Cars.com shows 8 B's for sale with 3 of the top 4 prices attached to spiders.

 

What if you paid less than $50k?

Not necessarily, $100,000 is just bellow average for any of the three 355 models that sell in England, all it takes is a hand full of english buyers to vote and it renders the poll useless.
The forum has to remember polls like this can also include posters from all over the world. Unless this poll is uniquely US only, you will never get a true reflection of the US market, ever.
I don't mean to come across as a kill joy gentlemen, but it's an important factor.

 

Well, I just helped a friend buy 1998 Berlinetta F1 from Canada for around $30k. It needed a comprehensive major and the dash recovered but it already had the headers replaced and some other nice upgrades. It's a very nice car.

I know that the F1 cars are less valuable but this is a good data point.

 

A snapshot of what Haggerty says as of 5-19-15. The figures are low, but it gives you a peak at the steady incline in price over the past few years.

Car has been for sale for 2-3 months now. RTGT does with all of their 355s. Their 98 low mile GTB was very nice that sold last year.

Throw Sh-t at the wall and see if it sticks.

If Manheim is any indication - and it usually is - prices continue to head in an overall downward trend.

The 308s are heading downward cause the 328s are heading downward cause the 348s are heading downward cause the 355s are heading downward cause the 360s and heading downward cause the 430s are heading downward, etc.

Today's Ferrari is a mass-produced, mean machine - very unlike the dozen here, dozen there days of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. As a consequence, supply is ample, prices are soft, and will remain so. Until they aren't.

 

First of all, you're numbers are for spiders. Different market. Not justified, but true nonetheless.

Secondly, your statement that 3x8s, 348s, and 355s are headed down is just flat out wrong.

Perhaps you're just trolling again like you always do. Either that or you've had you head under a rock for the last 12 months.

 

Your sample is misleading because you selectively picked the 99's. Look at the trend with 96's and it tells a completely different story:

A $20k markup isn't bad...

 

I feel a poll like this (even if it focuses only on, say, the US market) is a little mis-leading given the relatively high variables of condition, both mechanical and cosmetic, and the cost of parts/service on a Ferrari. If I participated in the poll for what I paid, and then someone saw that they would think the car is only worth that. I paid what I felt was a good price for the car given that the prior owner just did valve guides and the full engine out service, but I then proceeded to put $12K into the car to get it to my liking, and I factored the work I wanted to do into the price I paid. The work I did since January included a rebuild of the steering box, new CV joints, interior sticky repair, a great pair of the metal fender shields, full fluid flush and other things that were my personal taste- a challenge grill (plus installation charges) and a pre-owned Tubi (plus installation), and the obligatory extra remote clicker clone from gobble I even put in a new shift knob and floor mats.

My point is the work I did to put the car right for me, plus the $17K the prior owner spent on the valve guides/belt service last year (granted at a dealer- likely would have been a lot less than that at a good independent shop) means the purchase price is only a small part of the story.

There was another yellow spider for sale at a Florida dealer when I was looking in the winter- the asking price was if I recall about $15K+ more than I paid for my car with similar mileage- I would have not have had a problem paying that for the car as it had the challenge grill, no stickies and even had the fender shields but it had no record of the valve guides being done. Even if I pursued it and it had fine leakdown test, for the car I did buy I had the proof of a Ferrari dealer that just did the valve guides ~1 year ago (but only a couple hundred miles). So I bought the cheaper car that had the steel guides and proceeded to get it set up the way I wanted.

If I bought my car when it needed the valve guide work I'd pay ~$40K for the car. Now with the guides and belts done by the prior owner, plus all work I put into it the purchase price (for this exercise I'll add the cost of the work I did at 100% since it was just done) would be closer to $70K. There's just too many variables (I'm not including the cost to ship the car from CA to NJ, PPI, state taxes...boy this stuff adds up quickly!) Each car is different...and I didn't even get into the other variables like miles, color, transmission, any accident history, maintenance history, geographical location, time of year, etc.
