My aircon switches on OK when I start up, but after about 20 seconds the readout changes to "E5".

Does that indicate something special, or is it another connection/PCB issue?

Thoughts on problems and solutions welcomed :)

I'm not home, so I can't ref my manual, but a quick search reveals E5 "motor for heater valve control". I suggest first using the battery off trick. If that clears it then it was probably your standard 348 transitory problem and you just fixed it. If not then proceed to plan B, pull the a/c panel and apply Stablant 22a to the plug. Hopefully that will fix it, but plan C is that perhaps the heater valve motor is failing or has failed. Find it and stabalant all of it's connections. If that dosn't help, the motor may in fact be bad. Good luck, there's lots of info on working out 348 a/c problems in the archives.
