I drove today a 95 355B with some questionable history. I was attracted to it because I actually can afford it! However, the issues have me worried... It only has records from the last 2.5 years, the driver seat desperatly needs to be re-dyed and it has not had the 30K major. It does however run beautifully. The kicker? It was rear ended but appears to have been quite well repaired. This is reflected in the rebuit title.

    What would you Pay???

If it was me, i'd keep searching.
No Major + No Records = No Sale !!!
Keep in mind that you could probably Purchase it well below market, but it will be very TUFF to resell.
Salvage is a HUGE Negative also.

Was the car in Cinci, OH? I drove a burgandy 355 w/ rear end damage about 4 years ago, car ran fine, but damage had not been disclosed prior so I walked. Could have bought for about 50K back then

I think it will be really hard to resell, but if you get it low enough ($40K or so) maybe that doesn't matter anymore. It's not totally unbelievable the the owner is trying to sell if for the same amount he paid a couple of years ago. But that's just the starting point of the negotiation :).

Good luck if you buy it. For what it's worth seems that a "clean" example would go for $65K to $70K (I think).

40 to 45 provided all the early model issues have been resolved. everybody puts money into these cars but with wrecked ones being sold for between 20 and 35k the bottom end is pretty close. hey, for that price you can have alot of fun. just realize as soon as you get it timeing belts and major service will cost you between 6 and 9k and you got most of the pain out of the way and resale value will always be 30 to 40 percent under perfect cars

I flew into Cinci Lunken airport and met the owner and car. The repair was pretty rough, esp in the rear grill / bumper area. As I recall, the actual paint job itself looked pretty good, based on a cursery look. The paint was cracking around the rear buttresses on both sides where they met the rear quarter tops. The Alternater warning light flickered on hard accell.

As for the 50K price, I should have been more clear in above post. His broker, through conversation, led me to believe the car could have been bought for 50K. I never pursued it. I believe the car is on a salvage title, but its been a while now.

The interior was a rich tobacco tan color, not sure of the proper color name. The color combo was pretty nice. But the car had too many issues so I stayed clear. If you were to pursue it, it could be a nice ride if the price was really right....

I would stay clear this car could be a financial nightmare. The 30k will cost you between 7k-10k if no major issues and you will have a problem when you go to resell it in the future. If you don't care about the resale I would then have a ppi done on it. If the ppi came back good I would offer no more then 40k.
