As I understand it, there isnt a fool proof way of determining the year of a BBi, maybe applies to all BB's. My car might be an 82 or an 83. How can you tell? Is there a chassis number range to go by? The ownership says 83 but there is a hugh gap in chassis numbers between mine and an 84 I know of. Just curious if there were any minor differences from year to year such as the EQ's seem to come 5 and 7 band depending on year, mine is the 5 band version.

    What's the chassis number?

I track about 2,800 Boxer numbers. If I don't have yours, I will surely have the ones above and below.

There are a couple out there as good as 27001, just none for sale at this time. Be alert and ready to make the move, one will come along.

My chassis number is 42509 the 84 I know of is in the 45000 range. I saw someone advertising an 85 BBi, thought 84 was the final year.

Paul - at our meet, I think I overheard someone mention that the model year is based on the year in which the car was originally registered. Maybe I've got it wrong, but if the car you mention was registered in '85, maybe that's why the final year can be '84 but the car is an '85 model.

I mentioned that to Angelo at the meet (the other BBi) , my 79 308 with a data plate stating the car meets 79 emission specs says 80 on the ownership. The BBi says 83 but the dealership locator manual with the car says 82.

    Hello Boxer Spotters:

    First, all I have on Paul's car is a single entry identifying it as a BBi. 42479 is a 308S and 42525 is a 308S. I have nothing for 42481 - 42507, or 42511 - 42523.

There is no way to be certain of the official year without the Heritage Certificate of the car. Europe didn't have model years until the later 1980's. The last BB is 38119 and the first BBi is 38121. The highest BBi I show is 53657.

As for the number of Boxers produced by year according to Ferrari:

    356 GT4/BB = 387

    1973 - 24
    1974 - 229
    1975 - 119
    1976 - 15

    512BB =929

    1976 - 42
    1977 - 164
    1978 - 136
    1979 - 191
    1980 - 240
    1981 - 156

    512BBi = 1007

    1981 - 55
    1982 - 324
    1983 - 487
    1984 - 141

    Ciao,

    Lee

good point. my GT4 has a low von and was made in october of 74, but has a 1975 title.
my GTB was made in november of 76 and has 1976 emissions placcards on it. car ha a 1977 california title ( now georgia).

perhaps its the gap in prep and hipping time for the cars that are made later in the year? seems cars made in the first 6 months of that yaer get registered for that year, while cars made towrds the latter part of the year are sold as "newer" models. i saw a 77 GTB with a 1979 title. car was white and may have been hard to sell originally.

I had a chat with Phil & Martha Bachman last night and he mentioned that he has THE LAST PRODUCTION 512BBi. Is his car in your data base? If not, I can get the chassis # tomorrow and forward it to you. He also has a 365BB that's been getting lots of ink lately as well as a carb'd 512.

    Best regards,

    KevFla

If it helps my BBi is #49425, first registered in May 1984 and also beginning of 1984 build as it was the Ferrari UK Maranello Concessionaires official press car. It is one of the last 5 right hand drive cars built. There are only 42 RHD BBis.

If you don't have mine, it is #48171. I believe it is registered as an '84 but I think it falls in line with an '83???? Red/Blk. I've owned it since 7/85.

Hello Kevin and Last BBi Spotters:

You and Phil are correct; my data was wrong on 53657 being the last 512BBi. Phil's 52935 is the last BBi made. FYI a typo, 52657 is a BBi.

Per some historic documents: "Ferrari model BB512i serial no. 52935 is the last built unit of this model." This car was sold new through Walnut Creek, CA Ferrari. I show Phil & Martha Bachman, Greeneville, TN as the current owners. Phil apparently has/had some very succesfull auto dealships in eastern TN.

He also owns 18631, a fantastic 365GT4/BB Yellow/Black which has won multiple FCA awards. Kevin I am curious, do you know if he is the original owner for either of these cars?

    Thanks for correcting my records.

    Lee

Thanks for the info. I did have yours listed. It will be close; either a 1983 or 1984. Only the Factory Heritage Sheet will tell for sure.
