Doesn't anyone else find it a bit sad that this car has had 4 owners and has only 13k miles? Clearly all of its owners didn't believe in the old adage that "Ferraris are meant to be driven". Enzo is probably rolling over in his grave...
Not really IMO. Some have multiple "fun" cars that are only driven on nice days, weekends/etc and are still enjoyed even if they aren't racking up a ton of miles.
By my calculation this car has been driven about 760 miles a year on avg or about 15 miles a week. Or, another way of looking at it, a couple of road trips a year and months of sitting. That, sadly, is Ferrari ownership in a nutshell for many owners. One of the most sublime driving cars out there yet most are never driven in anger and instead are used as garage art, status symbols, and car show ego trips. Happy New Year!
Well it depends. For me, I have about 6 months out of the year with no salt on the roads. So, 13k miles over 16 years is 812 miles a year, or 135 miles a month. So, it's driven 2 or 3 times a month at 67 or 45 miles a time. Certainly enough to stretch it's legs and not only be garage art, status symbol or car show ego trip IMO. If not, what is the minimum usage/mileage that warrants the situation not sad? Just saying I think the cars can still be enjoyed in a worthwhile manner if even only driven occasionally or not a ton of miles.
Yeah Big, many of us have a few cars, some more then that. Throw in family, work, and lots of other hobbies and its amazing some get driven at all.
I wish I had the champagne problem of having too many cars to drive! I totally get that point; it just seems that there is an unhealthy obsession with miles among Ferrari owners which is why so many of them have ultra low miles. Case in point -- on a FCA Mtn drive this year one club member showed up in a Mercedes AMG. When I asked him where his 458 was he replied that it had 9k miles on it and he wanted to sell it before it broke 10k miles since he knew the value would drop. Perfectly logical but still a bit crazy.
I think most people who by Ferraris just do it for the "experience". Kinda like the Corvette Guy, the Porsche Guy, and the BMW Guy (etc.) just want to see what Ferrari ownership is all about (and to say they had one). Nothing wrong with any of this but short-term ownership is expected.
There are just different kinds of owners I'm sure that those with very low mileage cars like this one after getting them and putting a couple thousand miles on them the first year and again maybe the second start to think. Oh crap. , if I keep doing this every year I'll be over 20k quickly and then if won't be an ultra low mileage car anymore. So, it goes on a 50 mike trip here if there and sits the rest of the time. It's preened and serviced and looked at and talked about but need to keep the miles down so it isn't taken on road trips of a few hundred miles, etc. I'm sure the owners enjoy the experience their way and for them it's the right way The local FCA president herd is a guy named Dave North. He owns a few Ferraris and regularly takes them on journeys of 2000-3000 miles. He drives his cars as much as he feels like and goes on sightseeing road trips with car clubs , etc. I envy him from eschewing the mileage thing and driving his cars. Another type of owner.
Sure may not be nuts to most people here as this is the 355 forum. At least for me it is nuts. When I but the 355 I will most likely end up spending at least $20K on it first year upgrading the seats to carbon seats, wheels, steering wheel, interior carbon fiber..etc I am not a purist for sure. I want a car that I can enjoy. Though I love the 355 I might be better off buying a well sorted 360 as there is so much out there in the aftermarket. I won't need to buy seats as it is so much easier to find one with the carbon seats, I won't need to change the steering wheel, lots of them have already carbon stuff vs. the 355 etc.. I might as well finance a little more on top of the cash and buy a 360cs as there is one on ebay for $150K. I owned a 355 and a 360 previously. I love the 355 more but the 360 is not so bad either. If I can't find one for decent price I might start the search for a 360 or just go for a nice convertable 355. I don't think $30-35K extra is worth for a GTB as I could easily find a vert for about $55K So for me it is Nuts
The subject car of this post was purchased for right at 46.5K. Then shipped to F1 Loving in Ohio. He beat me out by about a week on the car. He just had service done and did list his intentions to sell/flip it after the service was done. The car is super clean with low miles, and some excellent service history. 89K, I don't think so but prices are on the rise, no argument about that anymore. Kicking myself for letting this car getting away. Previous owner was a very nice guy that kept lowering the price to get in out of his garage, he just didn't want it anymore and it was on Autotrader FOREVER. It was also on Ebay 3 times. Interested to see what it does...
To someone like me a waste of money and since your morning the car inwontbstaybup the money you spent back in your pocket. I see zero benefit from expensive carbon seats if the car didn't come with them. Everything you listed is things you wanted in the car. They were not needed expenses. You can't compare your spending on parts with the value of the car. It never works that way. But you do to your car as you wish. I hope they keep going up. More money in my pocket.
