Sad. At least no deaths. This car did better than the Enzo from a couple of months ago, the compartment doesn't look compromised.
The article says a woman was driving.. seriously.. I ran it through a translator. "Driver was badly injured....The woman lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to speeding....the passenger escaped with only light injuries"
holy crap!! Is it suposed to tear in half like that to keep the integridty of the passenger compartment? That looks way too clean.
Probably because the safety cell wasn't hit by a pole or tree, which is what would have happened to the Enzo.
Well the Enzo split in two just like this CGT. The thing that really shocks me is the wheel that's standing upright with no center!
No speed mentioned. The owner let them "testdrive" the car. Just were 1/2 mile driving and she lost control on the car.
Yes. Supercars like this have a totally different chassis design than regular modern road cars. the way force is put on a decentralized chassis (race chassis like this) it splits between the engine and passenger compartment. Unlikely. Porsche safety is far more advanced than Ferrari, especially in instances like this. Porsche dumps a considerable amount of its resources in safety which Ferrari does not. Airbag laws aside, the CGT is years ahead of itself in regards to safety. If you ever have a chance to look over the owners booklets to this car, you will see what I mean!
Look at this photo. It looks like somebody is sitting in the driver's seat. I found this to look really strange. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow. I will remember this when I buy one of these beasts. No test drives for anyone not experienced with someone else's supercar. Wow. Respect is definitely due to these stallions. I remember Schumacher saying about the Enzo, "It's best to use traction control because that's a lot of power if you don't know what you're doing." Forza, Cavallini
There was apparently yet another CGT crash in Socal a couple of days earlier (1/14?) that my friend sent along to me http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=260986 Very few photos available, but a couple here... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm glad no one died or was seriously injured. But referring to the Enzo not holding up like this, I have to say the Enzo had to be going at least 50-75mph faster than this car causing it to become as destroyed as it was.
This happened in the east of the Netherlands in a town called Tilligte. Supposedly the owner (a well known dutch racer who resides in Zürich) lent out his Carrera GT to a lady for a testdrive. They were staying in the same hotel. This all happened at around 03:30 am... The lady suffered serious injuries (brain injury and pelvic fractures), but is alive. The passenger (not sure if that would be the owner) got away with light injuries. As you can see, not only Ferrari's split in two after a heavy impact into a tree. There was some discussion regarding this topic here on F-chat after the Enzo-crash pics in Italy surfaced.
