Driving the F355 around in the past month or so and got CEL 5-8 engine light. No slow down light came on or performance loss but was able to pull in the garage safely.

Attempted to pull the codes but no indicator light came on. Decided to reset the ECU and drove it around some more but the light re-appeared and then disappeared but as I soon as I was almost home the light came on again.

Upon my search I found the following things I should do/check.

    - replace the O2 sensor
    - check MAF connector pins and clean them accordingly

    Am I missing anything else?

Whenever mine comes on its allways been a o2 snsor but yours is a 95 so I think it is less likely. You need to pull codes and then you will see.

The cat might be worn out or going out.

It seems that with a 2.7 and intermittent CEL with no code leads to O2 sensor. But myself and JohnK have experienced this and replacing the O2 sensor resolved the issue. I'd also suggest you do both as they fade over time and are very cheap. Amazon has the best prices.

I see. Then yes, the Bosch O2 sensor will work :)

I think they are basically the same on the outside (same threads, etc.) - it's just the guts that are different.

Thanks guys for your input and have purchased the O2 sensor and will give it a try.

Also, what are you thoughts about the gold connector kit? I was thinking of replacing my stock ones on the next engine out.

The O2 sensor is both found on the cat and by the engine bay? Which one do I replace?

Many threads and debates on the forum regarding this. I'll say that the electrical connector industry (years of data, testing and engineering) state to no mix dissimilar metals for connectors. That said, I don't support the product for those reasons.

I suggest you replace both but the 5-8 is on the left side (LHD driver's side)

Well, The Gold Connector Kit (GCK) is a bit like a religion. Some people swear by it.

FWIW, I took most of the gold connectors out of my car last winter. It is running much better now.

Personally, I am of the opinion the material matters little. The actual connection engagement is the key. Any new connector will improve connection...gold or otherwise.

This is a fun thread about it: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q/326310-stooge-tin-pin-connector-kit.html

I am one who swears by it, the gold connector kit, but if done wrong it will cause more grief than left alone.

What Watson said has a lot of merrit though, new connectors on a 20 year old car are likely better especially if the grip is better and will, likely out last the ownership in many cases.

I did it quite a while ago had I know about other choices and if i had the time and patience to source likely I would have done different.

My feeling is time is money and at the time I had more money than time.

No offence taken. All good John.

Ps the other good thing was when I had an issue I had paid for some over the phone advice which also helped.

Did not have you or Dave Rocks available at time if I recall correctly. Like all things in the last 8 years public knowledge on these cars has come a long ways.

Previous owner here.... the 5-8 MAF connector has not been clamping well when I owned it and wiggling it causes engine sound changes. I had noticed a pin was offset in the MAF (after replacing the O2 sensor and throwing money at it). Moving pin back into position, it had no new 5-8 lights for a long time. The suggestion is not gold vs tin, but a more solid connection to the MAF connector.

Thanks Vas. Would you recommend looking at the MAF pins positioning and possibly cleaning them as oppose to replacing the o2 sensor?
