The Maserati is such a cool car.. I have read many reviews. Except the clutch issue. With the clutch lasting about 20,000 miles,,, Isn't there an after market up grade, or something that can be done to make the clutch last longer? Would you trust a non dealer to do the job? Thanks,,,,, got to get one..

Despite much interest in this, no one has figured out a bulletproof solution. A few people have tried a kevlar clutch but no one has yet to make it last any longer than the standard clutch (and some burned through the kevlar clutch in less time than a standard replacement). The Formula Dynamics drive-by-wire module engages and disengages the clutch quicker which should increase the clutch life (by how much depends on a lot of variables). After the clutch is replaced, the computer needs to be reset by a Ferrari/Maserati SD2 or SD3 machine which not many independants have.

Basic driving habits factor in a lot. Avoid reverse as much as possible as the clutch is constantly slipping when in reverse and avoid starting from complete stops as this is where most clutch wear is from.

The concensous of many with this car is that we just have to factor in a new clutch every 20k miles just like the Ferrari guys have to factor in a timing belt change every three years.

It comes down to this. I had an '04 Coupe which I sold and stepped up to an '06 GranSport which I currently own. I absolutely love these Maseratis. I drive it and enjoy it and when it's time to replace the clutch, I'll just do it and enjoy the next 20k miles.
