Alright, I actually need help on this one. This is Dino number 2 for me. It is a very late 74 Dino, one of the very last ones produced. It's colors are Oro Chiaro Metallizzato and tan, with Daytona seats (original factory spec). The outside was repainted the original color back in the 80's. The interior has had some minor redoing. Other than that, the car is all original. According to the owner I bought the car from (basically the second owner of the car, if you remove brokers), the mirrors and top are original in their colors (even though the car was repainted). If you look at the mirrors, they are the same types used on the 308gt4, which was one the assembly line when this car was. Does any one know for certain that the last Dino's shared mirrors with the 308gt4? Also, is anyone aware of the targa tops being delivered from the factory in a color other than black?

This car joins my other Dino, which all original other than a repaint. I will post more photos and info as I learn more. Until then, can anyone help me?

all i can say is that its beautiful. my sources tell me the mirrors can be bought for any older British car for around $20.00. for the life of me though, i cant see a damn thing out of the mirrors on my Dino. 308gt4 that it is..... and not a "real Dino" like yours. :)

    best.

after looking at the paint and mirrors on the car, i honestly think that they are today as they left the factory. if i thought otherwise, i wouldn't have posted the question. i know there are several members and lurkers that have owned dino's for a long time. i hope they will chime in.

by the way, the car looks darker in the pics than it is. the car is actaully lighter. it has more of a gold color than my ingrid 360, but it is far lighter than a typical gold color.

i have to agree, the side mirrors are completley useless. on my other dino, i have a side mirror only on the drivers side. i can make it work. these mirrors, on the other hand, are difficult.

IMHO, whilst the car may have left the factory with those vitaloni california mirrors, I doubt they were colour coded as they seem to be, after all how many pre mondial / testarossa Ferraris have been spotted with factory colour coded mirrors. the same goes for the roof panel

It would make sense that when the car was repainted the mirrors and the roof were colour coded at that time

it's a stunning looking car though, why can't Ferrari / Pininfarina make things that beuatiful anymore rather than the jap'esque 575/360/430/enzo

For sure the 246's never had mirrors fitted as standard by the factory, the only time mirrors were fitted was, if requested by the new owner, was when the car was being prepared for sale by the dealer.

    Congrats on the new baby!

I love this color and think you need to take your camera and find a nice sunset to bring out the metallic colors - Think Christmas card.

I have never seen original, delivered Targa tops other than black, but do know of several owners who bought an extra one and had it painted to match. Truth be told, the car is a blast to drive without the Targa top.

I've never seen mirrors like these on any Dino.

Very nice indeed. Is this the car we talked about earlier?

And no, I've never seen a car come out of the factory with two mirrors, much less those two mirrors.

    Top was ALWAYS BLACK.

Probably both changed when the car got its respray.

I think I'd probably yank off those mirrors and revert to one, driver's side, as original.

Again, great car. Nice find. Serial #???

Congratulations on your new car. I was surprised when I saw your post. I recently purchased a 73 GTS. It was restored by the previous owner and repainted. The top is painted and I have the same mirror on the driver side. I haven't been able to contact the owner but I assumed he painted the top. I have been talking to other people that know Dinos and they suggest that I change the mirror. Would be interested in any other information you find out about the mirror.
    Thanks,
    George

Dave, I remember seeing in one of the road test/buyers guide articles that you have sent me, having a Dino with the same hard top as this. Where do you get them? Looks much better than the standard one I think.

Oh yeah, congrats on the car! Dinos are sweet!

the top is the standard factory hardtop. i do not know of anyway of telling if it was painted at the factory this way as the previous owner said. clearly i know there is always the special cases where the factory does what the owner wants (ie- anyone remember that 308 that was red with all the standard black items painted white?). my question is does anyone know of any cars that would support this arguement?

look at this photo of a freshly painted car at the factory. clearly it shows the hood, but what is one the windshield? it doesn't look like the engine cover because it doesn't have the slots and is too small to be a trunk lid.

Same color as my 330GTC (with red interior). I've never seen a Dino in Oro Chiaro. It looks great!

    Shawn.

No less an authority than Denny at dinoregister.com has NEVER seen a US car with those mirrors.

Only single mirror, driver's side, like these...

Also, has never seen an original GTS US or otherwise, with anything but a black targa top.

Although, and as we know, he did say lots of them have been re-painted to match the body color over the years.
