'79 308 GTS. I have searched the threads but have not found this one. I know that the Ebrake on these cars isn't the greatest, but mine was working pretty good. Somewhere along the line my hand brake would not come up to the first click. I have had the car down for paint, engine work and several other items, one of which was to look at the Ebrake. The problem is that the cable will not move, even with the cables disconnected from the wheels. I disconnected the cable from the brake handle and tried to pull it from the rear of the car with a comealong, not moving. Is the cable coated with plastic or is it now rusted to the pipe? Any suggestions???
Sounds like something seized or jammed. Could the cable have rusted inside of the housing? Doesn't seem likely since it sounds like you used it on a regular basis. Maybe something in the handle broke? I think you're going to need one person in the car pulling on the handle and another under looking for some movement.
It's a stranded steel cable, in a spiral housing, IIRC.... Sounds like it's jammed up can you get it out for inspection??? It might be possible to get a new cable down the old housing unless as you mention it's rust or damage to the outer casing causing the issue.
Can't move it with the Ebrake handle even though it is disconnected at the rear of the car. The cable is now diconnected at both ends, any thoughts on how to get it out?
On the underside of the car, underneath where the seats are, there are three rubber plugs. I definitely know one of them opens up to the throttle cable. I bet one of the other two opens up to the e-brake cable assembly. You can easily trace the path and see if the plug lines up. You may be able to check it there or at least get come spray lube in. then lube each end. Good luck
