    Inclined to agree.

The C5 'vette and 944 I used to have both cost more to maintain than the 348 in a similar span of time (around a year post purchase). Now, how many people have told you, "I used to have a Ferrari, but the maintenance was so bad I bought a Corvette"? Sure, as long as everything is working properly, you can simply change the fluids and roll...but let that thing start throwing error/check/service messages at you and you can be pretty offended.

My 993 911 has been about 75% as costly. Obviously, that's only MY experience, but it does go to show that just about ANY car not under warranty can kick your butt. That shouldn't really surprise anyone and I too get pretty annoyed with the old, grumpy, know-it-alls who love to give their "first and last day" speech. Do they just not bother to investigate ANYTHING within the copious amount of information that is available for just about every car known to man?!

Some things cost more, sure - but for the astute shopper, there are less painful and perfectly effective solutions, as well as honest mechanics, to be found.

Too funny this thread came up - I had just watched the video and was laughing while explaining to my wife why these guys are knobs :)

I wasn't suggesting another oil reco thread. I truly wish to know if there are ANY overt signs for belt wear. Noise or is there an area one can inspect part of the belt for condition or tightness.

Huh? I heard that in England, it's £250 and a pint of warm beer.

That's because the NHS covers Ferraris over there. Only downside is it takes eight years to get an appointment for your five year belt change. But yeah, in Great Britain maintaining a Ferrari only costs a very tiny fraction of what it costs here. Which is why you don't see young Brits making videos about the high cost of ownership.
