The assumption that GT4s are inherently less desirable than other 308s (or mondials) is unfounded. Rocco
Dom, You will regret it. Don't sell it. I had one of those busy summers where I didn't get to drive my 308 that much, and I thought "What a shame. This car needs to be driven more." But you know what? It's paid for, it's a piece of beautiful artwork in my garage and even not driving it, I get pleasure just seeing it out there waiting for me to have the time. I'm never selling it. It's a perfect piece of artwork that just happens to be drivable too. I don't have to drive it to appreciate what it does for my soul. (But it does do more for my soul at about 100 MPH....) Birdman
"Tillmans car should be worth well over the 29K. I don't know why he's low balling himself? It would seem to me he got a smokiong deal! True the sale of the high end GT4's don't make the market but nor does the sale price of the "parts" cars. Obviously. But the price of a decent GT4 is easly in the mid 20's +. Nitch market, arn't they all? If anyones not willing to pay 25K+ for a decent GT4 and would be willing to go to a differn't model, the GT4 was obviously not for them in the first place. I "PERSONALY" don't think anyone would gain anything much by going to a GTS or a Mondial. It really comes down to personal preference at this point, that all. I would never sell my GT4 to go to either one of those models. A 348SS or a 355, possibly, I'd rather keep my Dino and aquire another one if at all possible. Which would obviously be dictated by myself. Forgive me on being so passionate about the GT4's, they are a great car and very under rated. Which was a good thing for those of us who were lucky to get ours when the prices were low, not so true anymore weather people like it or not" I could not agree more. Drove mine from Nor Cal to LA and back a couple of weekends ago. I haven't grinned that much for that long in way too long....
I have both a GT/4 and a Mondial. Keep thinking i should sell one, but its like picking a favorite kid....
I am currently working on buying on a 75 silver/blk with red interior. 28k miles (accurate). Current owner has had the car since 1976, he purchased it from the original owner with 4k miles. I will post pics by the end of the week. There surely cannot be that many 75 gt4's that have spent their entire life in Southern California .
Wow, that could be a great find! If I may ask, what are you looking at spending? I only ask considering the nature of this thread. If you don't want to say, thats perfectly ok. Hope everything works out! Cheers!
I am not sure I am gonna keep it. Might just sell it as soon as I get it. I was looking into another car, and of course, something else falls in my lap. Can't buy both and keep em. I will keep you guys posted with all the details and pics when I have them
Dom, after reading all the replys I almost (note almost) saying that i am interested in your car. I have been looking for a number of months and seriously beating the bushes for the last 2 months. i have found many but they were either to far away (east coast) or were clearly not my kind of car. i am looking for a 'nice driver' or better. if your still interested in selling it let me know and I can promise everyone I WILL drive it not matter how nice. Also, if anyone else knows of a great GT4 that needs a new owner to look after it please let me know. thanks all...by the way this is my first post! Michael
Tell me about yours!! I am in SF and have been looking for a few months. i have a few on the hook but haven't gotten to the right car yet. The prices i have seen range for the low 20's to 40. Price doesn't always seem to mean quality. i have just missed a few mid 20k cars that i think were good cars and then have seen 30+ that i wouldn't own. anyway, i am ready to buy so let me know
When I was shopping, I was actually looking for a GT4, but I kept getting hit by early 308 carb cars, and some FI cars. Then, I was only a few thou from the Mondial QV. So, the market that supports these cars is kind of fractured. Although I would have been happy with a GT4 - ney ecstatic, I wound up with a Mondial QV cab for same money as a decent GT4. Of course, my Mondial needed a major, some elec fixes, etc. It wasn't ready to drive, but I got it that way pretty much by myself. I would say that somewhere around 20k, or slightly above for this example. The major is scary for the first time buyer even though it's not a difficult job. Most buyers will farm the work out, and that's a big chunk for just buying a vintage car. I would do the major and have no excuses on sale.
Also looking for a GT4.If you want to sell it let me know.I`am in Nevada.Could use a trip to the west coast.
What are you looking for in a GT4. It was mentioned above that there are cars at $20K and then ones over $30K, not a lot in between. The difference is usually drivers with deferred maintenance and pristine/near pristine examples with recent services and few issues. The thing to do is to decide on what you are looking for. When I started my search, I didn't have a clue. I almost bought a show car which wouldn've been the absolute wrong car for me. I ended up writing out all the things that were important to me, was patient and the right car showed up. I'm having a BLAST with it. Oh yeah, the ABSOLUTE bottom line is....Buy the best example that you can afford!!! JIM
I`am looking for something in the 20k to 25k.I`ve been a mechanic all my life and am retired now.Working on the car would part of the joy of owning a Ferrari. If anyone runs across anything let me know. Thanks
I'm also looking for a 308 GT4 Dino. I've been made aware that there are Euro versions available in the US. with the current exchange rate this might be a viable option for me (to import one to Holland). I've been quoted 20-25k for a nice one (not concours, but nice). Any input welcome. I was also wondering why there are Euro versions in the US. (see for example the other thread about the cheap GT4 for sale). Best, Peter
In the 308 Dino register i counted 13 Euro series 1 Dinos. Didnt seem any more Euros came in after that probaly due to the tighter EPA restrictions etc... Im sure not all are accounted for but with attrition ect., it cant be a large number. http://www.dino-gt4-registry.com/
The only ones that I've seen in the States Dave are yours, mine and the one on Peter Sweeney's site recently. I'm sure that there are others, but they must be in hiding. JIM
Hmm, doesn't sound like a big pool to me. Maybe there was confusion in the communication. Maybe it was about 308 GTB/GTS Euro versions. Are there many more of those? I'll ask the person who gave me the information again.
Here are the Euro GT4's in the US that I know of (40 cars): #8560 8600 8650 9662 8672 8754 9040 9070 9080 9212 9254 9340 9468 9864 10176 10208 10238 10316 10998 11022 (208) 11078 (208) 11168 (208) 11234 (208) 11420 (208) 11492 (208) 11552 (208) 11662 (208) 11768 (208) 11772 11786 11890 11946 (208) 13244 13350 (208) 13460 13550 (208) 13722 13776 14804 15520 Hope this helps
I guess I do know of one of the 208's. It's out West....belongs to an Ferrari Lister. Dave, you forgot 08140......that's now 41 cars!! JIM
This one is currrently for sale in Vancouver, Canada. I am not associated with the owner, have not viewed the car or phoned about it. I believe it has come up for sale once or twice a year for the past four or five years wth prices from $25 to $35K. I recall seeing a green / tan 308GT4 about 5 years ago in a shopping centre parking lot when it was for sale for about $25K Canadian (Canadian dollar was worth much less then). http://driving.canada.com/buy/used/details.spy?carid=1767111 Jon
