Does anybody else think this is a scam?! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C154316/ and the reply to my email enquiry: Hello Mr David, Thank's for your email, the car still available for sale im sale ferrari dino 246 gt US$65000 the car location in Medan,Indonesia The car still in excellent condition with the chassis, body, engine and gearbox ,there no have any rust, scracth or damage, the car sill run until now and never race. The car is a left hand drive the vin number :05480 mileage is 34,673 miles i owned this car 4 year ago when I still lived in Australia for the work and in 2008 I returned to my country and also bring this car Nice to hear from you Regards Deny Afrizal I get the distinct feeling that I may have difficulty arranging a pre-purchase inspection!
This car is registered on Dinoregister.com as being owned by Afrizal from Indonesia. It quotes it as being an attempted scam sale since his first attempt in 2006 when he tried to sell it for $26,000. i think someone from Melbourne tried to meet with him, but no luck after he wanted deposit first and then meet at an address that didn't exist. Scam, scam, scam
I ran across this same con posted on Anamera about two months ago. Looks like Deny has started to realize that Dino values have gone up since then as it was being offered at $26k. Deny offers a good presentation however. He produces pics and even official looking documents, a pink form which looks like an import document and a yellow one that seems to be an Indonesian registration. However, as Mike Sheehan pointed out after a two minute investigation, the VIN actually belongs to a US car and an Australian car would be RHS. The Indonesian scam was featured in a Sports Car Market magazine article which showed the exact documents Deny sends out. It's the usual scenario where the mark pays Deny's friend "Mr. Freight Forwarder" for the car. Money and car are never to be seen again and getting any sort of recompense out of Indonesia is rather difficult. A few people have actually fallen for the scam including a guy who thought he was getting a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing for an insanely low price, evidently disobeying the "if it's too good to be true" law.
