Avoiding for a moment the issues of re-creations/tribute cars/speciales......from a design standpoint this car simply is a fail, aesthetically. Money doesn't buy taste......

Because you sound great when you say:

This car is sort of similar to the Ferrari that was once owned by:

Prince Bernhard van Lippe-Biesterfeld of the Netherlands. Try say this in one sentence without mistakes :)

And the peasants (in the Holland of the day) will want to revere you and kiss you, and...and...

Sort of like the ohhhs and ahhhs in the comment section.

Thankfully, A number of spare components will accompany the car. Relief.

    Regards, Alberto

    PS.

    Orthogonal drawings

"An orthographic drawing represents a three-dimensional object using several two-dimensional views of the object. It is also known as an orthographic projection."

Think the commentators (not commendatori...sts) know what this means?

I think what they did is not so bad. what else should you do with a 250GT/E body without frame, without axles, without engine, gearbox and rearaxle?

so it will get then a "wide body 250 GT/E" ;)

I think when it will be finished it will get an eyecatcher nobody has seen before. but still a lot of work.
would be something for ratarossa? ;)

They didn’t have the experience of chopping or widening custom cars, you never mess with the windshield area. they widened the top so now good luck finding a windshield

o_O Not a big deal at all.

In past 30 or so years, I've made/produced numerous much more complex, including compound curvature windshields, rear and side windows for customs, one-off's, prototypes, including many that have been shown at variety of events ranging from Cavallino, GNRS, Quail, SEMA, Pebble Beach, etc.

I even have (photo) evidence of a (100 point ?) BoS winning one-off car for which I was initially requested, but ultimately not chosen for to make/produce all the glass and the final results ended up significantly different (read, incorrect) when compared to the original coachwork design, styling & fabrication.

Same reason why people buy/get/have/own and especially show off fake anything, be it art, cars, clothing, watches, etc. Insecurity !

I build the cars, I don’t do glass. Thus never touch the windshield surround, cut it out and set it aside. Proportions are off on this particular car because they widened the windshield and roof with a strip.

I'm guessing the occupant position in a California is further out from centerline of the vehicle than on a GTE. Probably needed to widen the greenhouse to allow head clearance to the roof rail.

I too have built, customized, modified & restored countless, mostly vintage cars for 45 years, but I do glass for them also.

Almost all cars with heavily modified, i.e. chopped, sectioned, widened, etc bodies, regardless of their original designs, makes or models end up having their proportions off, some worse than others.
Countless magazines & shows dedicated for them have been filled with examples of them longer than I’ve been alive.

Heck, even those Tom Meade “creations” and almost every homage/tribute/etc car ever made are great examples of far less than ideal proportions, but most people fail to see that because they’re just enamored by the popularity, shock & awe they present.

For full disclosure, I too have made (curved) windshields and other glass for custom cars that were quite ill-proportioned and some even down right ugly, but they were jobs that paid well enough and customers were pleased with the results, so …

Not to mention how much more ill-proportional it would look if only the body below the greenhouse was widened.
Such effect can be seen in countless mid-century and newer American cars with heavily chopped roofs without proportional modifications for it.

Well, it sold. I think it was either that, or continue trying to sell it, after it had been exposed that long. Fantasy Junction, is very wise, and sees reality for what it is.

Whoever bought it, is still waiting for the 'invites' to many special events.

Wonder when it will be seen, and by whom.

    Regards, Alberto
