and no pics of the engine, what are they trying to hide?

This car was on eBay about half a year ago by the same guy in Oregon. And of course, it has Arkansas plates. I think it's just some eBay cowboy trying to flip it.

Good point about the engine, wonder if it has one?

That is the correct deck lid for a 1977 US car, its the 78 and up US cars that have the larger venting. Tint isnt a big deal, it will wash off. But that windshield takes a big hit at a loss of about $3K. At $20K plus shipping, PPI, etc., then the windshield, youll have over $25K in it before you can say OUCH! It will be interesting to see how strong the market is on a car like that. If not for the glass it dont look to bad.

I'm surprised they left it cracked. Insurance should cover that... assuming the owner had comprehensive.

$3K for a new windshield? You can get a new one for less than $1K delivered. Other than that it looks like a nice car!

The car looks quite tidy actually.

The cracked windscreen was shown so I don't they are hiding anything in the engine bay. Give benefit of the doubt. You could always get someone in the state to have a look. US$20k is a giveaway of you can get it for that.

+1 Agree totally. The interior is really nice - tint washes / scrapes off - cracked windshield? Please.. that's not even that bad. I would sort it out mechanically and drive it! The windshield would be last on my mind. If that thing goes for 20K it's been stolen, I'd be all over it. Plus, it's not RED... Sorry to you all you red guys, but man.. how man more red Italian cars need to be out there? (P.S. I have a red 66 Fiat 1500) :)

    Should be fun to watch.

At $20K, that is a good car, assuming there is nothing drastic wrong with the engine. It's all there and presents pretty well. You can't expect a show car for this money.

Is that a grand from Ferrari or the local PPG glass company?

Who makes the original windshield -- Sigla? I think it's different from the side glass (St. Gobain)..

If the original windshield maker no longer exists and PPG didn't buy them, I'd want to buy from whoever did. Might even get lucky and have the correct brand marking . . . ?

I wouldn't take whatever the local glass company offers unless it happens to be the correct original glass, or the closest thing to it. :)

My brother lives in Oregon and we have friends in Roseburg. He says that the economy is horrible there due to some major cutbacks with the logging industry. Hmm...

All ways a little suspicious when the sellers spends more time giving you the history of the model than actual facts about the car in guestion.

    Hi all,

I, too, have noticed this car and, in fact, have emailed the guy a few times. I do believe there is some grade A BS going on here. First of all, per another thread, the guy had the car listed around 6 months ago yet when I recently emailed him, he told me he's only had the car a couple of months and this is why he has not yet registered it. Secondly, he said the previous owner is a major Ferrari collector, having, in fact, 10 of them, so the car was well taken care of. YET there are NO service records. Seems to me a collector would know the value of records and proper maintenence, no? The fact that the car is and has been in Oregon for at least 6 months yet still has Arkansas plates leads me to believe that the current owner may have purchased a "title of convenenience" from AR becuase he couldn't register it in OR due to some glaring shortcoming, such as a salvaged titile. Of course, I do not know this as fact, but there are a number of states in which one can obtain such a title. I have also emailed me this dude to send me pics of the engine bay, which he said he would do, but thus far...nothing. I have also asked him to either call me, or give me his # so I may speak with him further about the car. Again...nada. So...if ever there were a case for a MAJOR ppi and such, I think this may be it. Of course there are fellows on this site with FAR more acumen than I'll ever have with these cars, but I am actively searching for either a cool carb car or a QV, so I have done a lot of due dilligence. Anyway...just my dos centavos.

    My best to all,

    Scott

Welcome to FChat Scott. Glad you are doing your research searching for a car, I saw your other post in the thread I started about the 81 rosso rubino car.

As you read FChat, you'll begin to pick up the ins and outs of these cars (like I have :) ). While some Ebay ads are well done and even by fchatters, others can get you in to trouble quickly, as it seems you have picked up by this particular car. Hope you stick around and find yourself a nice car.

    Hi James and others :)

Well...I hope I didn't rain on any bidder's parade, but I reported this car/seller to Ebay. I really do think something fishy is going on woth this car, and I want to make sure other Tifosi, who may not be quite as well researched, are not taken to the cleaners. The more I've tried to "E-chat" with this guy, and the more pointed my questions have become, the more he has shied away, now to the point of not even answering any of my emails; and it really came to a head when I casually emailed him about why he has an AR plate on an OR car. I hope I'm wrong and that someone gets a great little car (wish it were me!), but I also hope that whoever is currently bidding on the car has already seen it and verified some acute particulars on it. Anyway...

James, are you an owner, or searching like me ? :) Thanks for you comments/post.

    My best,
    Scott

I bought my first and only Ferrari in July last year (2007). My car is a 1984 Red/Tan 308 QV. Its not perfect, but its ok. Here's my pictures I posted in the "contest" thread late last year: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136956098&postcount=132

If it wasnt for FChat and the input I got from the excellent resources here, I would not have been comfortable purchasing my first car.

There are 3 things to remember when looking:
    1) Buy the best car in the best condition you can afford.
    2) There is always another car for sale, dont panic about missing a specific car.
    3) Always get a PPI

I hope you find a really good one :)
