Ferrari 355 Berlinetta | eBay
Unless you're offering cars at give away prices, it can take a little time to sell cars like ours. He's obviously in a rush to move it.
I talked to him yesterday and he said he may lower it one more time. If he misses the 430 he said he was going to keep the car. Hes in a hurry to p/u a 430 locally but if he misses it he said he would pass on selling. I offered low 70s and he said he would rather keep it. I guess hes a motivated seller but not a desperate one. I was only planning on spending 65ish on a car but I want the hard top.
ahhh that makes sense Mike it'll be tough finding a good Berlinetta for 65k I searched high and low for mine before I found one at BlackHorseMotors....paid north of 65k for sure
Would you say there is a premium for a gated over F1? All other things being equal. I think his car would sell at high 70's for if it were gated and much sooner. Thoughts?
I would say yes to both of your comments, but the higher the cars go in value, I think the less the gated vs f1 will matter... Robb
Definitely agree, I did the same when buying 93 348ts. Glad i did as Ive not come across another one like it yet in 7 months. Go for it it ticked all the boxes except for price.
Interesting...I haven't been paying attention to prices for a while, glad to hear there's some rebound.
I think you made a strong offer. I'm really surprised he didn't take it. Like Socal1 said...."He shouldnt have let a few thousand dollars get in the way of him getting the 430 he really wants" There are a pile of buyers on here waiting for cars with cash in hand. The clean maintained low mile ones still look like they sell well below current asking prices. The ones in the $70's and 80's are still available in the face of an abundance of buyers in the market. We have a bit of a standoff I would say.
In economic terms, a standoff is a mismatch of price expectation to the actual demand in the market and the market has not reconciled it.
I personally feel that is all the money and more. These are a hard sell outside of the Fcar crowd, 15-16 year old car, three hefty services all in 13K miles. Nice or no, real money is still south of that number IMO. Too close to 360 values. And Eric, probably so, there seems to be a 5-10 differential F1 to 6 spd.
My 2 cents since I know the car and I THINK I have a good idea of the situation... THIS IS ONLY MY PERCEPTION OF THIS SITUATION! F1 Moving estimated cost for the car $46500.00 F1 Moving estimated cost for enclosed shipping from New Mexico to Ohio $1500.00 F1 Moving estimated state taxes to put the title in his name at 0.0825% $3836.25 F1 Moving estimated cost for major service and fixes, here and there $10000.00 F1 Moving estimation that Ohio State would win it all... Freakin Priceless!!! That's an estimated $61836.25 give or take a couple of grand invested. MIkeD355s offer of low 70s (let say 72K) and rejected... Hmm not sure why. My suggestion, take a offer of 72-75K and run straight to the bank because its not going to get much better than that. If it does, more power to you brother.
The New Mexico car was for sale for $65k for a long time on f-chat back in the old days 2+ years ago. The lowest I ever saw it for was $60k. The owner wasn't in a hurry to sell. I don't know the purchase price but I'm not sure the seller dropped it 20k back then to F1 moving. I don't think the upside or downside matters. It's simply the value to pay today. My 328 I sold 2 years ago is now worth at least $30k more... New owners profit, but I got my F355. It all evens out. Robb
Dang Robb, you really do remember every 355 for sale! Yes this was Richards car from New Mexico. He was asking 65k for forever on Autotrader and here. He finally wanted to sell the car and his number he told me and two other buyers was 46.5K. He simply didn't care to drive the car anymore as it is not easy to get in and out of. It was time for he car to move to a new owner. I don't know what it actually sold for, but before F1 Moving bought it from Richard last summer/fall of 2014, Richard called me and said my best offer is 46.5k and if you want the car it's yours. F1 Moving made a deal with Richard and the car was of to Ohio. No harm, no foul. I prefer a 6 speed manual and if I have to wait longer for the right one, no problem. As to pay a "Premium" for a manual coupe car, or any 355 coupe, well, we will see about that. If you asking me its all about timing.
If someone feels like the market is trending upward they may have no reason to drop the price more. More power to him. The amount current seller may "profit" off buying and selling a car the way F1 Moving is trying to do means nothing to it's value. It is worth whatever it is worth today. Just like the current owner of Robb's old 328 that he mentioned. Some owners are pulling crazy profits from cars shooting up in price over the past 6-12-24 months. Good timing on the buy and a tip of the cap.
There may be a standoff at this point, but if the seller does not want to sell at this time and IF the 355 is appreciating, the seller still gets to enjoy the car while the potential purchaser may miss out on their opportunity to own a 355. It is still too early to tell if prices are really going to rise significnantly, but if the British market is a harbinger of things to come, one may not want to wait for another year to get a 355. Some continue to use the argument that the pricing is too close to the 360 to make sense, but I think the 355 will go the way of the Porsche 993 vs. the 996. I never cross shopped the 360 and have no desire to own one, if I go more modern I would only consider the 458. Just my opinions, I may be wrong.
Ohio State did win it all! Man, you are very upset you missed out on that car huh. You have it all figured out. Do you do this with every car for sale? Im patient, I will wait for a call to sell and in the mean time.......i will keep looking.
