Shortly another comprehensive QV engine overhaul will be leaving my shop and heading back into the wild. It's been a long road, with many twists and turns. However, not only is she pretty due to significant effort made by the owner, she was done correctly with only the best of the best materials and shop procedures used.

Simply gorgeous, but it's the "done right" part that's most important. Let us know when you turn her over for the first time -- that's gotta be a thrill.

Can you list some of the "best of the best" part options that were used? These are things I need to keep in mind

    Absolutely-
    Wiseco pistons
    ARP rod bolts
    Vandervell main and rod bearings
Teflon valve stem seals (versus the nylon OEM ones)
OE engine gasket kit, not that "black gasket" junk

I think this gives you some idea...

Very nice! Are the yellow paint dabs correct for the injector ferrule/nuts?

I know lots of the bolts and clamps were dabbed, but I hadn't seen that before. Not being not picky, just curious in case I ever give my engine the full detail.

-On the QV, compression can easily be raised, as long as piston to valve clearance is checked. Both of these engines run a Wiseco custom forged piston with 9.74:1 compression. Modern piston rings used. Although I could have gone higher, long term reliability coupled with fuel concerns dictated a more conservative approach.
-Valves and guides new. Made to order valve guides that are undersized on the i.d. This enables us to get the precise valve stem to guide clearance I want. As new, Ferrari was very lax in this department.
-Crankshaft oil galley plugs removed. All internal passages cleaned, cleaned and cleaned...
    -All components Magnafluxed
    -All components re-balanced
-All piston rings fitted by hand and ground to size. Immensely time consuming, but yields consistently low leakdwon.
    -Block checked/line honed as needed
    -Heads checked/line honed as needed
    -Intake ports matched, as needed
    -TDC verified
-Cam timing set with a degree wheel

There is really nothing special here other than just your old school, leave no stone untouched, engine rebuilding techniques.

Thanks Joe. Those are very kind words. These are very special cars and warrant the best care, in my opinion.

The engines are fairly straightforward to get right. As they say though, the devil is in the details...and that takes a considerable amount of time to get right. In the first set of engine photos, the owner chose to powder coat many of the engine components. It looks pretty, but the finishes are not OE. However, the second set of engine photos, the goal was to stay as close to original as possible with everything. All of the aluminum was cleaned and prepped in a multitude of ways to get back to the factory look and feel. Many of the hardware bits were re-plated...The list is extensive regarding all of the little extra steps taken to achieve precisely what the owner wanted.

On both cars, the owners were actively involved in prepping the engine bays and surrounding chassis area, prior to the actual engine installation. Credit were credit is due...
