And just like the one at the Auctions America that sold for over $600K, this one (also blue) comes complete with a coat of dirt (oh, sorry, patina). Here's part of the auction company description (edited out their general history of the Speedster)

    1958 Porsche 356 A Super Speedster
    (Estimate: $200,000-$275,000 Without Reserve)
..."The car presented here is a final-year Speedster that benefits from the model upgrades made that year including improved rear suspension design, quicker steering, and a 1,600 “Super” flat four engine that produced 75 hp. The car was purchased from the original owner by B. Mitchel Reed, a well-known Los Angeles disc jockey, and his wife. The two enjoyed the Speedster for about 12 years until it was purchased by its current owner in 1970. The current owner purposely resisted the urge to have the car’s body refinished in shiny new paint, believing that it would make his car less tempting to thieves. After draining the oil and removing the battery, he garaged the Speedster in 1974. It sat there for the next quarter-century. He moved in 2000, taking the Porsche with him and again placing the Speedster in his garage until 2016, when he decided to part with the car. This Porsche epitomizes the term “garage find,” having been stored for 42 of its 58 years. A solid Southern California car, this final-year Speedster provides the next owner with a fantastic candidate for a concours-correct, factory-specification restoration."

I am wondering what this trend of not re-painting cars, and not re-upholstering them in order to honor the Great God Originality will do to the concours scene--will we see concours fields in the future consisting of dirty scruffy (but oh-so-original) cars?

Like the old saying: "They are original only one time."

Our recently acquired (pre auction hype of barn/garage finds) '55 pre A Speedster was last driven in '85 with the PO stating that it ran fine when parked.. Originally red with black interior/top. Now some shade of white and blue interior/top. Interior and top are in pretty sad shape and stink to high heaven.

This car will not even be close to other "original" cars. NOM, don't know about transaxle yet but all the removable body parts are correct numbers matching..... that fact is a plus.

Looking forward to sorting it out and returning it to the road. Won't be anything close to concours, but, a nice driver that looks like it has been loved for many years.

BTW, have most all the parts to put it back the way Speedsters were delivered.
