Back in 1999 Schumacher broke his legs after a violent crash in Silverstone.

I know we discussed this before but my memory fails me:

    What was ultimately the cause?

Was it a rare MS misjudgment triggered by Irvine not giving him the corner?

Or was it a missing breakline cap a mechanic forgot to put on?

    Discuss. :)

I've always thought it was the rear brakes failing. I don't understand your Irv theory Andreas.

Another reason why Silverstone should be scrapped from the racing calendar!!!

It is an unsafe track... and the socialist communistic medical services is a recipe for disaster.

Ask PSK: brake failure apparently looks different, particularly in a car with two independent brake circuits

That car just didn't stop. I don't think Irvine had much to do with it. Remember it vividly, was very scared as a kid seeing the blankets put up over him after he was extracted from the car while the doctors worked. MS has had his share of near misses in his career. Abu Dhabi '10 comes to mind as well as his bike crash.

I also remember his first race back in '99 taking pole by over a second from his teammate at Malaysia. Awesome.

Yea, in a way, that leg breaking incident enabled him to recharge his batteries and come back with a bang.

I could be confused, but it's odd to :) regarding a man who broke both his legs in a terrible crash, regardless of one's hatred for them or the supposed circumstances. Academic discussion regarding the circumstances, fine, but being pleased regarding any injured person or the circumstances which transpired making such an instance possible is just.....well, it's odd really.

Tons of people loathed Senna, but not a one is happy with his end result may he RIP. The same goes for any driver sustaining a major injury.

Where did you get the idea I was pleased he broke his leg? The smiley was a reference to Linda Richman's "Coffee Talk". Now discuss.

I was a huge MS fan back then. I was relieved that he "only" broke his leg, for a moment it looked a lot worse watching it unfold on live TV.

I have a small piece of that car. It's probably an inch and a half square and I have no proof of it's providence so it's only actually worth anything to me. The Safety car driver gave it to me.

    Very kewl.

I have a piece from another dramatic MS DNF. Can't prove provenance so same situation, yet to me it is most valuable.
