From some of my past threads some of you all know of my ticket problems....so anywho I was in Chicago for 2 days to see a concert with two girls and as we were looking for parking I came to a stop a little into the cross walk. Now apparantly in Chicago people running around in the streets in front of you when the light is green is ok....but if you keep going they do move over :D. So the light was red so I stopped and just barely went into it...then this crazy lady just starts going off on me how I almost killed her, and I wasnt even close to her so I just ignored her. So one of the girls Im with rolls down the window and starts giving it to her good, and thats when the cops pulled up on their FREAKING BIKES!! and pulled me over.....now I wish I had just ran. They proceed to ticket me for the stop walk thing and 2 tickets for not having on seat belts, in Indiana if you're in a truck you dont have to wear em, but they didnt care. So they gave me the 3 tickets and even told me they only did it cause my friend and the woman were fighting and the woman was going to file a complaint if they didnt since what my friend said to her made all the people around the woman and even the cops laugh. Now my problem is that I have to go back to court in Chicago over the crossong into the cross walk and 2 no seat belts. So I asked the cop whats gonna happen when I dont come back, and he said they'd issue a warrant which I knew and dont care about cause I have no reason to ever go to Chicago anymore, but my concern is with Indiana.

    1. will I get points on my licence from this?? I think I will
    2. more importantly will Illinois cops actually come to Indy to arrest me?? The cop said they will, but I doubt it.
    3. whenever I get pulled over in Indy next time will that warrent show up?? and if it does will they arrest me?

the only thing Im concerned with is getting arrested the next time Im pulled over here, I dont give a **** about Chicago, heck Im about to just crinkle up the tickets and piss on em. I MIGHT go back up to court since Ill be free if I can find some reason to go back, but is this something I even need to be worried about?

The weird thing is I cant just pay a fine and be done with it. This is the first time I got a ticket like the one they gave, first time I had to sign it, first time getting one outta my area, and first time I could get a warrent for ignoring it.

So what in the world should I do, seeing as I dont wanna go back to Chicago?? Can I just ignore it a be fine?

You just can't stay out of trouble.

I do not know the Indiana to Illinios relationship, but many states will simply mark you on your DMV file. Simply put, the warrant will prevent you from renewing your DL and from registering your autos when they come up for renewal. Ignoring a warrant means the next time you get pulled over there is an arrest warrant out for you and your local police take you in on the spot. Have you considered the credit issues related to having an open arrest warrant? I didn't think so. You should have traded the cop your vehicle for his bicycle, you're going to need one of those real soon.

States are like countries. Cops from Ill CANNOT just waltz into Indy & arrest you w/o getting permission from the state of Ind. They have ni jurisdiction in Ind & it would be unlawful for them to do this

as for #3 it is possible this could haunt you in Ind , you should find out to what extent the 2 states share DMV info

its probably easier & less headache just to hire a lawyer to represent you & be done w it all

at least this time it wasnt for having a lead right foot, but rather not having a lead left one :)

and despite all the bad crap that happend with the cops and the trip it was all worth it !!!!:D!!!!

so does anyone know if the point will show up on my Indiana licence, I know several states do that

It could very well haunt you. I know in Illinois if you get a ticket out of state, that does go against you. Actually a friend of mine got his license suspended for a few months last year for getting a ticket in Iowa and Wisconsin. Might as well just pay the fine or go to court. Best of luck!

Yup. We live fast paced lives, and don't have time to wait. Don't feel bad, though, the cops do write tickets for this.
I think you've isolated the mistake, here. I've found driving in the city much more pleasant since I've adopted a Zen-like approach. The city is full of traffic and pedestrians, and I'll get where I'm going eventually. Yelling at other people and cars isn't going to get me there any faster.
What's wrong with cops on bikes? Its easier to navigate the Loop by bike. You'd be happy to know that bike cops are the ones that protect your from petty theft in the streets. The bikes form a nice barricade around the person they're apprehending on the sidewalk.
I wish you had run, as well. I would have loved to hear you bi*ch and moan about your visit to the big city after a stint in Cook County. Cops on bikes carry radios, and there are more cops in patrol cars than you notice.
Why should they have cared? You weren't in Indiana, those laws don't apply.

It won't just be in Chicago. There will be a warrant issued by the Illinois State Police. Any time you enter the State of Illinois, you'd be subject to arrest. Personally, I like to be able to move freely through these 50 states, without having to plan my routes around states I have outstanding warrants in. But that's just me.

I'd be willing to bet that the points do show on your license. I was researching a cross country trip a while back, and I was checking to see if speeding tickets from other states get reported back. There is an agreement between many states, that they report freely between each other. I don't remember exactly which states are a part of this agreement, but I think motorist.org has snippets of every state's traffic laws.

One less tourist stopping in crosswalks. I already feel safer on the streets.

I am pretty sure most states share info now on driving infractions. I am also pretty sure most states share warrant info.

That means when you get pulled over next in your home state, they will see you have a warrant and you get arrested. Actually it doesnt even take getting pulled over - many cops sit by the roadside and randomly run places. When they see yours come back that the owner has a warrant, you get pulled over. Then they say something like you drove erratically or crossed the yellow line or were speeding which gives them probable cause, and the court will not dispute what the officer says over a person with a warrant.

You need to either go and try to get out of it or better yet get a lawyer. If you dont youre screwed.

Took the words right out of my mouth! :)

This isn't 1960.. DMV records are linked state-to-state. My ex couldn't get her Nevada license renewed until she took care of a FTA (failure to appear) warrant/speeding ticket in CA. I really wish I had that $400 back.

No...! Trust me, I know - from personal experience - if you ignore this, it will come back to bite you in the ass...!

Cops will not arrest you in Indiana for some silly traffic violation in Illinois... But if you're ever in Indiana - any part, not just Chicago - and you get pulled over, guess where you're going...? Here's a hint; it rhymes with "bail", which is another term you'll have to familiarize yourself with.

Go back to Chicago for court... Tell the prosecutor the cops admitted giving you the tickets merely because your friend was arguing with the old lady - that should take care of it right there... What was the cop thinking when he said that...?

Anyway, don't ignore this... Trust me.

I've noticed that occasionally, cops write tickets that they know will be dismissed just to wash their hands at the scene. My sister was rear-ended while making a legal U-Turn, and was ticketed for "Obstruction of traffic by peddling goods."

Fking traffic Cops should just go work at the IRS or be toll booth workers, at least that way they'd be more honest about what they really do.
