    Believe it indicates wear on CCM brakes:

    Vorn = front

    Hinten = rear.

    Pretty soon you won't need an SD3. You can just access all the data off the menus. This is extra info is great. I'm sure there is probably more info that you can get once you explore the menus.

    Pad wear, I'd think: The carbon rotors are supposed to last the life of the car.

    Some may see this as cool to me its just a gimick, let be honest most owners of the 458 wont really be taking the car to the track every weekend so brake pad wear is likely to immaterial.

    That's what people with typewriters said when they saw a computer for the first time. Today I almost never see anyone using a typewriter.

    Now even children have their own laptops with LCD screens. News : tech prices go down.

    Personally I don't think it is that big of a deal. Computers and LCD's in cars and aircraft have been around for a long time. All of these parts are sourced from other suppliers by Ferrari. They don't manufacture it themselves. I'm sure the same basic parts are in use on some other car, stereo head unit, navi, etc right now. The LCD, for example, is probably the same as those used in handheld navi's. You can rely on the aftermarket.

    If you can afford a 458 you can afford to replace an LCD occasionally.
