Looking to buy a semi-nice watch, I would like a little "bling" on this one. I have been looking at a Tag Links model with a diamond on each hour on the face, nothing crazy, just something that looks attractive. Is Tag a great brand? Or is there something else out there that will be a better buy in the 1500-2100 range?

    Thanks!

A Baume and Mercier, although w/out the diamonds, may work for you.

Speaking of watches I've been thinking about getting an omega seamaster. I've always wanted one. I might sell a few watches I don't wear often and see where I'm at.

I've had a tag Se/l which is the earlier version of the link and I've always been happy with it. It's one watch I'll probably never part with.

The Omega Seamaster is one of my watches. Really enjoy it.

My brother has a couple of Tag's and he likes them too.

If you want bling, some people like the looks of Movado.

In the $1-2K price range, Tag, Omega, B&M, Movado, etc are good name brands and it's just a question of what you like.

I think you would do better, if you go to a reputable dealer who specializes in previously owned hi-end watches. If you can buy a real one, as opposed to a fake, with papers, warranty, etc. you'll benefit from having the first guy take the 'hit' on depreciation. Keep in mind that alot of these guys are like car guys- like it this month, next month, trade in for something new. You could conceivably find a nice Panerai, a Breitling, a Rolex, or half a dozen other real 'high-line' watches for that kind of money; the ones listed, at retail new in that price range, are 'nice' watches, but nothing special in my book. (not trying to diss anybody here who owns one). For example, here's an IWC at the bottom of your price range, from a dealer I have bought from. http://www.tarrytownjewelers.com/watch_results.asp?categories=Watches+Pre-owned&brand=IWC&Gender=mens&Submit2=GO You can peruse his site, and others, and folks here could probably help. Alot of alternatives if you are willing to go 'used.'

whart makes a good point that I forgot to get into - don't pay MSRP for watches! I would normally expect to be able to find someone who will sell a new brand name watch for 30-35% off with modest effort. A very, very good deal on new would usually be 40-45% off. Fair price range for excellent condition used would be 50-55% off and so on. E.g., the Omega Seamaster I bought was 35% off at a local shop after dickering for a couple of minutes; whereas I probably could have found 40% off on the internet. Exact percentages will vary depending on popularity, but those are my rules of thumb. There are also major exceptions, for example new Rolex & Panerai will rarely be found for more than 10-15% off.

I don't think you will be able to find a bling Rolex (meaning one with some diamonds on the dial face) for $2K, an older plain steel one more likely. But you should be able to find a very blingy almost new non-Rolex for $2K, since the diamonds carry a smaller proportion of resale value in watches.

    Truth B wicked errr told!

If you can go up to $28-2900, you can easily find a nice, late model SS Rolex Submariner. Less for one with a scratch or two on the case.

My only advice would be, avoid the bling, buy the watch. Diamonds are for girls.
