Well I originally purchased my 86 Testarossa as a project car, I knew it was in need of the 30k service, it was running a little rough and the condition of the clutch was unknown. Since I have had it, I got a Ferrari tech to look at it and he got it running like a champ with little effort.

Well yesterday I discovered a minor fuel leak after the car had been sitting in winter storage for the past two weeks. My professional life has kept me from fixing this car as I originally planned and I am considering selling it. So what do you think I should do? Let it sit for a while until I have more time? Or just get rid of it?

In all honesty this is the car I have always wanted, an 86 black on black, but I have owned the car less then 2 years; I am not terribly attached to it. If I did sell, I would be looking at a 348, one with a complete service history and one I can enjoy when I have the time.

Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Get the fuel leak fixed before it burns the house down.

It is not going to go up or down in value by much in the next year or so. It sounds like it needs a major and a rehose job now so there is little reason not to let it sit for a year or two.

Sounds like if you have any desire to keep it and you don't need the money there is little reason not to do so.

Chances are that the fuel leak is in one of the return hoses. They are inexpensive to fix, but a b***h to get to from underneath.

Personally, I do not like these early TR's. I'd fix it and sell it for a 348, which is more of a driver's car. Hold out for a 1994 B or a Spider to get the best of the mechanicals.

If you wish to keep it, keep it. But if you do keep it, fix the problem now otherwise it's shown that people tend to put things off and then the small problems turn into bigger problems and nothing gets fixed. So if you're "not terribly attracted to it" please do not punish the TR!

I will look at the fuel leak this Wednesday, for sure that will be fixed soon as it does pose a safety threat.

As for the rest of the repairs, if I decide to keep the car I will order the needed parts and hand the car over to a tech. For sure the 30k service will get done, as well as a new clutch and TO bearing (the clutch is definitely slipping). Otherwise, I will list the car as is. Any idea what the car would be worth needing a clutch and the 30k service? The car has just over 27000 miles.

Thanks for the input, I hope to make up my mind in the next couple days.

As stated above, most likely a return hose. If you attempt to remove it yourself, don't yank on it. Slice it. Trust me.

Drive the 348 first before you do anything. I think you will find it is a disappointment compared to the TR. It has a pretty rough ride and the build quality pales in comparison to the TR. Just an opinion, not an insult to the 348 owners.

I appreciate the advice given, but I have decided to sell the car and buy a 348.

Where are you listing the car for sale? I'm interested in what you are asking for it. Please PM me if you like.

    Thanks.

Sweet! You will not be disappointed. Make sure u get a PPI on any car u look at and hold out for the later model years. 1993 Series Speciales or 1994 B's along with Spiders are the better choices, IMO. The 348 Challenge cars are getting scarce and expensive. When u get one, hop into the 348/355 section for some tuning tips.
