Taste is a matter of taste. Period. There is no right or wrong. One of the things I like about being a ferrari owner is the F1 racing aspect. Owning a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche is somehow different for me. Forza Ferrari.
I think its a great pic! Check the bikini thread... does it diminish Ferrari? Some are "equal opportunity" car guys... myself included. I have a Ferrari, hope to have more. Got a long list of others marques I'd like too, Lambo included.
I think what's funny is that even though this site is a forum devoted to Fcars, most of the people on here are pretty well rounded. Yes, a lot of the owners have achieved what few others will (both financially and with ownership), but it seems that most of them have respect for other forms of automotive expression as well. They're enthusiasts. It's interesting that people bash, because if they spent two weeks on the forum just lurking, I think they'd realize that. But of course, the keyboard makes you invincible. They're just putting people in a box so that they can have something to break down. As far as Fcar enthusiasts go, I've always felt it was they're inhibition to compromise that sets them apart. They appreciate the rawness of these cars to the extent that it doesn't matter that they're not as comfortable or practical as something else; the experience they provide matters more.
The answer is not complex. Its amusing to watch others flail their arms when you give the pedastal under them a good hard kick. Part of it is also boredom, too. People come here for information, like myself, because the site is huge with an active membership. There is a great deal of knowledge to be found and shared. Sometimes a little (or a lot) of personal opinion bleeds through. It happens. The easiest thing to do is just ignore it. For every F-car basher on F-chat, there are at least two people that take things way too seriously and are wound far too tight. I would guess up to half of those with a Rossa subscription don't own an F-car. There will be someone somewhere on the site, if not now eventually, you won't get along with. What better way to provoke you than to attack the things you love most?
OK, so take this as a grain of salt in the sea because I am still just a kid, but I figure my opinion might be worth something because my age demograph tends to be on one of the extremes here, and very few moderates. Ferrari's have been seen as the epitome of what a car can be. Everything that Ferrari has come out with for decades has been close to or the best in it's class, and so on and so forth. People want to see them, but owners use them mainly for a car on the side. Makes us somewhat spiteful almost. Brings out the "If I had one I would drive it every day, but they have one and have it hidden in a garage other than the most perfect of days". Reading some of the costs for even the normal services here will make it so I never think twice on why people keep them as a novelty. I sure as hell can't afford a Ferrari, and if I could I sure as hell couldn't afford to move it without pushing it. The truth of the matter is that people my age either aspire to own one, or they aspire to be nothing like one of the owners they met. I'm a little bit of both. When I was younger I saw my first Ferrari (that I recognised to be a Ferrari). A black Testarossa parked down the street from me. So I run home and grab my camera and run back to be faced by the owner who greeted me with a "what the hell do you think you're doing kid? Get outta here". From that moment I hated Ferrari's. I hated how people could be so obsessed with themself, and their car that they told me that I could not even take a picture. (though I did end up getting a few shots) I fell in love with Ferrari's when I saw the P4/5 in person. I thought it was awesome about how intimately Jim offered his time and resources to people here to get them to be able to see his car at no charge. There is a huge spectrum of owners of all sorts of cars which many people neglect to realize. Chevrolets, Fords, Ferraris, Bugattis, we are all the same people believe it or not. Some just being much luckier than others. Which means in turn that the people you meet driving each one does not represent the company, they represent themselves. A fact that took me near five years to realise. I can take some of the blame for one of those who came here only because they didn't like Ferrari's. I don't know why I came, but I'm glad I did. There has been a huge difference in how I saw exotic car owners and the cars themselves from then to now. Take this again, as a grain of salt. Peter Hatch
Heres a video of Allan Lambo Fiedler harassing a Ferrari owner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10q6gRseKsc&mode=user&search= Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-cZ55xvwwE&mode=user&search=
I'm sorry to aim this at you, but I think that you are one of the people who has enough respect for me to not damage any egos. This type of comment is something that is far too common if you ask me. The claim that your car is something special because the company who made your car also makes winning F1 cars. How many components in your car were directly transferred from an F1 car's blueprints into those of your shiny new car? The answer is most likely 0. Your car is definitely bettered because of experience gained through F1, yes. But saying that your car is better than another because your car was built under the same flag as a winning racecar is misled. The respect you get for a company may well be placed in how well they do in a racing series, but does that in turn make those who do not race not worth owning? Think Pagani, Bugatti, etc. The F1 portion of Ferrari is an essential part, as racing has always been for Ferrari. Just as other forms of racing have been parts of other marques. F1 is part of the whole package of Ferrari. Unfortunately other than an "F1" gearbox there is very little F1 about a Ferrari road car. The technology may be based on, or derived from, but it is never going to be an F1 car. That is just my small rant, sorry if it takes this off course. Peter Hatch
You can't debate things like jealousy, religion, sexual preference, etc. In fact, you can't debate anything without facts. And, you can never debate the new American disease, Sayingitmakesitso.
Like many Ferrari owners, I like Lambos and in particular feel the Miura is one of the best auto designs, period. My experiences here make me wonder whether a disproportionate percentage of Lambo owners (those who post, in any event) have deep insecurities - inexplicable for guys who own brilliant cars. Hard to take seriously guys for whom a "race" is a short little giggle into three digits on a public road, and the only design that matters is "in your face." The current 599 v LP640 thread baffles me. So maybe an LP640 is faster than a 599 in a straight line, or on a short road course, or on a long road course, in the rain, etc etc. So maybe all the LP640 owners could afford Ferraris, and all the 599 owners could afford LP640s. Who cares about any of this? I've offered to bring my 599 to a track day and run with an LP640 owner, not because it would prove anything, but it would be great to see an LP640 at speed. Do the little girls who made the youtube videos actually own LP640s?
Well, my car has an F1 gearbox and shields and a Tubi exhaust. When people stopto look at the car they often talk about F1 racing. That doesn't happen with the Porsche. and it didn't happen with the Merc and BMW. So, for me, F1 racing is part of the Fcar experience I have not found in other marques I have owned. I wasn't involved with chat rooms on the other cars either. People often comment on how "cute" the orient red mettalic/tan Boxster S is as they pass by. People just about always comment on how "beautiful" the red/black 360 F1 Spider is and usually ask if I mind them looking at the car. Of course I do no mind. They ask questions and really check it out.
A street F430 has something in common with the 430 Challenge and 430GT, right? Porsche can make the same claim for some of its cars.
I think a LOT of the non-toy car owners out there don't realize Ferrari owners are mostly car guys. A lot think a Ferrari is only an ostentatious status symbol, not a driver's car per se. Granted a Ferrari is a gloat for a few people, but so is a Hummer. In my opinion, this is a huge misunderstanding between the general public and Ferrari in general. Most Ferrari owners I know or have talked to are HUGE car guys. They like the whole mystique thing, sure, but a Ferrari is still something different than a Viper, a Lambo, a Porsche etc. and they own a Ferrari for what it is as a car. This has hit home for me when I first bought my Lotus. I was expecting a fair amount of bad reactions and every now and then on the road, some ricer will be an idiot, but when parked I get almost 100% positive reactions. I think this is because it's such an old car that people see it as a classic, not a status symbol. No one owns a Europa to rub other's noses in what they own! I imaginge people who own vintage Ferraris (ones that look vintage; a 308 still looks now to a LOT of the unwashed masses) also only get good reactions. I would think most bad reactions come from people who see a Ferrari and think it's almost new and north of $200k to buy, and I chalk that up to misplaced jealousy. Ken
Don't hate ... appreciate Why is it you need to explain to us Ferrari owners that our cars are not F1 cars? Do you really think we don't know that? Also, where in PhilNotHill's post does he say his car is better than any other because of F1 racing? You are so bent on hating, you will find something negative because that's what is in you. G Oops! Sorry to vent on you ... I just looked at your profile.
What I've noticed much more is the Ferrari owners' hatred for anything other than a Ferrari, whether a Lamborghini, Corvette, Porsche, etc. Obviously, this doesn't mean every Ferrari owner is like that, but I've read a lot of threads to know that when it comes to comparing cars, whether in terms of price, value, speed, luxury, appeal, etc., the Ferrari drivers/fans tend to react bitterly.
I think any comments should be allowed. The topic will most likely be mainly Ferraris anyway. I personally think more the variety of people in a forum the better answer will be. That's the cool part about these kind of places. Not everyone has always been driving a Ferrari I think. Why not have lots of different views? Let's not close our door to any comments. ....
Unfortunately the bashers are the ones you see. The vast majority of Fcar owners I know don't bash and have respect for other marques. One local guy I know said the Corvette club he belonged to spent almost all their time denigrating everyone else. Before joining the Ferrari club he was concerned it would be even worse and was pleasantly surprised we are just a bunch of car guys having fun without putting down others. Dave
Peter, Sorry you had a bad experience. I have always let people take pics if they want. Depending on the course of the conversation, I have even invited them to sit in the car and I took pics of them with their camera. I figure I have a responsibility to not act like an ass and be a good ambassador for owners. Dave Dave
AllanLambo is the most pathetic person who has ever graced the internet, and that's saying something.
Peter: People ask me to take pictures of my Fcar often. I am flattered. Can't imagine why anyone would not want you to take a picture unless: A. It was stolen. B. He/she was having an affair somewhere they shouldn't be. C. Are of an ethnic tribal society that believes if you take a picture it will capture the car's soul. D. The person was just an @sshole. I'm betting on D.
