I am considering buying a 458 but wonder about the anti-theft (immobilizer) technology that was used for this vehicle and how it stacks up to the capabilities of modern thieves in 2025. Having owned a 360 before I know there are very few places that I can leave the car and let it out of my site without worrying about it but I would at least like to be able to leave it at work. Problem is, I live in Toronto where car theft is out of control. Also, I work in the Toronto suburb of Brampton which is even worse. One guy had his car stolen during the work day right out of our parking lot and it was just an Acura sedan, apparently by tow truck. I can probably park the car so that it is not possible to remove by tow truck but I am worried about the vehicle's immobilizer technology since the design is circa 2009. I don't see how a thief can bypass the immobilizer without capturing the signals from the fob but I haven't done a lot of research yet. Just wondering if there are any experts on this subject here that can apprise me. Thanks.

Get good insurance and get professional car storage service, you don't want thieves following you back home and endangering your family.

I live in Hong Kong now but I'm from Toronto and will eventually bring my 458 back to Toronto. When I do and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Risk to the family just isn't worth it.

Honestly I wonder if someone's going after your car, is it better if they actually get it. If they try to break in and fail or semi-fail and you get your car back it's probably worse than if you just got paid out, at least from a financial perspective..
