Greetings, I just purchased a 1979 308 GTS. The car runs great, however it just developed an atifreeze leak through the overflow. It seems to increase when I tap on the rad cap. I have pressure tested it and there are no leaks. I have replaced the rad cap. Any ideas?

What is the number on the cap? I had the same problem with my 82 Mondial until I replaced the cap with a "1.1" ".9" I think is the lowest it should be.

I agree. My experience is the 0.9 won't get it done. You will have many parts guys say the 0.9 is the correct cap but unfortunately it just won't hold with ever car. 1.1 should fix things. It fixed my problem dating from 9/97.

    T Rutlands.

They will argue with you about the 0.9 but just tell them to send the 1.1 anyway. You can use my name if you like.

You can get a new cap at Napa auto parts. Just get the cross reference number from the sticky at the top of the page.

I was told by Eugenio (F specialist) that the reasons for overflowing its because people tend to tap the reservoir close to the top, he said it should only fill it up just past the half mark or to be safe at the half mark as this allows for expansion, this why he said its called expansion tank. My 84 GTS was overflowing too untill I lower the watter level in my expansion tank, Problem solve. There is nothing wrong with the CAP.

I was able to cross it with a 16LB cap which is equal to 1.1. Now when it stops raining I will take it for a rip and we shall see. Thanks very much for your great help.

I went through this last year and upgraded to a 1.1. In the end it was the water pump although externally it looked good. Hopefully its only a cap with you but if not check the pump.

Sounds like to be absolutely sure, check that it is only half full AND put a 1.1 bar cap on it. Problem forever solved.
